Or at least thats what i am to understand. The new REVUP engines give you more hp but people here talk about downgrading to the old components because it gives you more torque. How much torque for how much hp is sacrificed from the 300hp? I had a 95 v6 stang and the thing had good tq(215) but lame hp(145) and that thing was slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

From non-revup owner, I will tell you plain and simple.

Because they're idiots.

Horsepower is simply a mathematical manipulation of measured torque. The newer "rev-up" engines have lower peak torque, but continue to produce more torque further into the RPM range. It essentially has a flatter power curve.

See the "Relationship with torque" section.

I think he might be talking about the Mrev...but he should do more research before posting a thread like this...

As for why one would want to sacrifice some horsepower for torque, that's simple. What the MREV (for example) does is increase torque lower in the RPM range, which is more suitable for day-to-day street driving.

I hope the information in my previous post helps some people grasp the horsepower/torque relationship and concept. I see a lot of uninformed posts and misinformation floating around here.

Anyone willing to sacrifice top end for low end... remind me to stay very far away from said person...... well... that is... until it comes time to race.

yeah no one would down grade the would just do MREV2 and pick up any torque they lost while also bumping horsepower.

Here is a really thorough explanation of how horsepower and torque work.

check this out!!!

I found this a while back playing around on the net.

OP I think means why do people run the old lower plenum + spacer on the Revup as opopsed to just a spacer. Simple-the midrange gets much fatter, at the expense of your already weak top end-the power falls harder after 6200rpm's with the older newer plenum. So, would you rather have more power from 3500-5500 or more from 6200-7000?

Well, since I do about 95% of my driving in the midrange, it seems like a pretty simple choice to me. I want the power in the range that I most use.

And that's really the answer to the original question. Most drivers (whether you drive aggrssively or more normally) prefer to have the strong part of the power band in the range that is most used for daily driving.

All this means nothing unless you go WOT in low or midrange RPMS. Maximum torque adn HP can only be achieved at optimum fuel/air ratios. So if you're really wanted all that extra power in the mid range, you should be driving at WOT in the midrange, other wise, teh difference doesn't really matter that much in daily driving. However, if you're sacrificing 3000rpm in the lower RPMS for 800rpm in the upper rpm, the trade off is inefficient. If you're getting 20 less torque from 2000-5000 rpm, but gaining 50hp from 5000-7000 (which isnt that much torque, like 25 torque), then its worth it for sure...
