Default door dents from large SUVs

(knock on wood) so far I have no dings/dents on my car. Its only 6 months old. But after seeing how SUV owners so carelessly open their doors when they park next to me, I've been considering some kind of protection. Would you guys get this? http://doordefender.com/car_and_truc...rotectors.html

Its kind of odd looking. Im thinkinig of getting this. Its like wearing a bike helmet/lifejacket. you'll look pretty gay, but at least you'll be safer.

Haha that door reflector looks soooo gh3y on that baby blue M3!!

I wouldn't get it or even think about getting it. A year and a half and no door dings yet, *knock on wood*. Just do your best to park as far away from everyone as possible. If a spot is questionable, I don't park there. Whatever you need to do by parking there is probably not worth having to spend the $$ and time to get the door ding removed.

I'd rather just keep on parking in the last row and walking - or even park in the lot across the street and walking rather than sport those things. When/if I get my Xterra I'll equip it with Shrockworks sliders - they stick out far enough to repel door dings.

If I dent a fender out wheeling it doesn't bother me at all (well a bit ) but if some ***** dents my door in a parking lot I'm ticked off.

I'll also continue to just park in the back of parking lots before I stick anything like that on my car.

2 days ago I saw a ford expedition pull up next to a C6 and a little kid in the back carelessly swung the door open and of course it slammed into the vette. The mother tells the kid to get BACK in the truck and they drove off. I wrote down their plate number and left in under the wiper on the vette.

I hardly ever park my car in an area where stuff like that can happen. I'd much rather walk an extra 100ft or so.

haha slam thats great, it probably means a lot to the guy in that vette. my dad has a c6 and he would flip **** if anything happened to it. but i'd never be caught with those things on a car.

Yuk!

My Z is now 3 + years old & still dent free. But I don't have to park in parking lots/garages everyday.

Much better to just look for out of the way and/or corner parking spaces.

im getting sick of people opening their doors carelessly. people nowadays have no respect other peoples cars...i personally watched a middle age man open his SUV door onto my car leaving a huge chip and a 10 year old kid run his skateboard into my rims.

Looks like overkill to me.

You can park in the middle of Death Valley. Someone will find you, park alongside, and bang a door. Its fate.

is it possible to fix/repair those type of dents/dings without the repaint? I have 3 penny size dents on my G from people carelessly slaming their door while parking next to my car.

I'd have to agree with davidv on that one...Even if you do find a nice corner spot next to a tiny Kia Rio with tiny doors....what happens if that car leaves the parking lot..only to be replaced by a humongous Ford Expedition..or God Forbid...A Hummer H3?

With those, they will try harder to dent your car and your wallet.

Obviously there's no way you can be 100% sure noone will park next to your car and dent it. However, by parking in the very back of parking lots you can greatly reduce the chances of this happening. Lets face it...people are LAZY, 99% of people park as close to their destination as possible so if you're all the way in the back you're probably safe.

I also think parking in the back of lots also helps protect your car from vandalism because a "vandal" would have to mess with your car in the open without other cars serving as blockers so nobody can see him.

^^ very true

ever since i bought my Z my car ownership stress level has gone up. i worry about people stealing my parts, keying it, dents, hit n runs, shopping carts, bird droppings, acid rain, towtrucks, ppl parking too close... list goes on

but like they say, if its gonna happen, its gonna happen
