My car has almost 9k miles it is starting to slip, I am not sure what's the problem. I was wondering if the clutch is covered under warranty?

Here is what they warranty booklet says:

TRANSMISSION AND TRANSAXLE - Case and all internal
parts, torque converter and converter housing,
automatic transmission control module, transfer
case and all internal parts, seals and gaskets,
clutch cover and housing, and electronic transmission
controls.

 

Your clutch is a wear item and is not covered under warranty unless it's a defective clutch. I dropped my Z off today for a new tranny and was told that by the tech a few days before (I went JWT clutch/flywheel since labor is gonna be free)

 

+1... Plus most of the time any damage to the clutch is done from the driver...

 

A slipping clutch is not defective, it's worn out. May I suggest changing your driving technique ?

 

Perhaps your pedal just needs to be adjusted though. If it catches at the top, then I would adjust it to catch a little lower and see what happens. I had to adjust mine, after the dealer did my tranny.

If not, with only 9k on the car, it really shouldnt be that hard to convince the dealer that the clutch was defective and was no fault of your own.

how long do our clutches usually last? so far im running at around 25k miles and i want to switch to JWT flywheel/clutch but only after my stock one wears out

 

what did you tell the dealership to get them to get you a new tranny? i think i may need to do the same.

 

I told them it was grinding every time I shifted into 6th (which it was)....then I told them my vin # (all of this was on the phone) Tech replied: Alright, I put in an order for a new tranny, I'll call you when it comes in. No hassles at all. It definitely didn't surprise him (tech) when I said I have a Z and my tranny is acting up.

I've had 5 cars with manual tranmission and have never had to replace a clutch (most of my cars had over 80k miles on them)...

Depending on how you drive they should last between 60k-100k miles... Of course if you suck at using a clutch then it is possible to burn it up within 10k miles.. Especially if you do a lot of street racing and ride the clutch to keep from spinning the rear wears...

 

Ive seen clutches last 6000 miles in the Z, ive seen clutches last 48000 miles in the Z...

it all depends on the drivers left foot...

 

Just can't imagine a clutch lasting more than 15-20k in a car if driven aggressively. This car is meant to be driven aggressively (IMO).
I read somewhere in here where a guy was shifting no higher than 3000 rpm, whats the point of the car if driven that way.
I guess its different when you have to pay someone to replace your clutch. Might give you the insentive tom learn how to do yourself.

i press pretty.. hard.. and makes some weird noise...

 

just dont slip the clutch so much and it last's longer...

 

I don't get this "drive aggressively" thing. A cobra owner who drives his car aggressively is still on the stock clutch @ 130+k miles. He's not the one to do burnouts and such, but races all the time.

 

As someone who has never had to replace a clutch and has driven quite aggressively I would say that this clutch should ABSOLUTELY last more than 20K miles even if it's ragged on. You can shift at redline in every gear and it shouldn't wear you cluthc anymore than 2k RPMs if you shift correctly. My current beater is a 95 corolla with 140k Miles...ORiginal clutch. I routinely redline this POS. 88 Integra Original clutch until 135K miles. 99 Sentra Original clutch 70K miles. All of these cars were driven hard.
I have had 2 clutches replaced in my Z but they came free with my Trannies. While my Z is certainly fun and great looking, it has had the MOST problems of any car I've ever had. My Crapolla spends less time in the shop.
To the OP. If your clutch is shot @ 10K miles I would seriously fight to have it replaced under warrranty as defective part which it probably is. To lose a clutch at that mileage you would have to be riding it all day and then some. I don't see how it would possibly be wear and tear. Peace.

 

my car is at 20734 miles, and its time for a new clutch, going with ACT 6 puck, and the Fidanza Flywheel.

 

I have owned sport and performance cars since the '50s, and I assure you, they were ALL driven "aggressively". Many clocked over 100K. I have NEVER replaced a clutch.

In the '50s and '60s, I was into drag racing. As I got older, I got more involved in autocross and rally. So all were driven the way they wre intended to be driven.


I have also owned 5 Nisssan trucks (currently drive an '02 Frontier), all manual trannys, all clocked over 100K (except my '02, only 67K on it right now) hauling lumber, brick and block, pulling trailers, etc. No clutch replacements on any of my trucks.


Agressively does NOT have to mean abusively.

If the cluch in my Z fails before 100K, it will be the only clutch I ever put in it. It will be time to find a more reliable toy.
