What do dealers do with the 06 in 2007?
#61
I got my 06 Enthusiast for $30,000 driveout...came with mud gaurds, wheel locks, floor mats, trunk mat, cargo net, backseat organizer, front chin spoiler, and i think that was it. it was listed at $31,600 + ttl so i think i got a pretty good deal.

A used Z isn't out of the question and the only reason I asked about 06 in 2007 is because I have to pay for that last semester and the money is due in Jan. After Jan I will be home free, that is if I pass everything and keep my GPA up.
The warranty for the Z is how long and how many months??????
I was very close to getting a used 06 Enthusiast for 26,500.00 with 4k miles on it but I passed caused the color wasn’t what I wanted.
I have yet to see a car in person like the one I want so that’s why I thought it would be easier to find one new. DB Enthusiast Coup!
The dealer I talked with said he would just trade with another dealer and could get me what I wanted. Do you think this will hold true in 2007???? For a 2006 car?????

the longer you wait the harder it will be to get the car you want. but pricing for whats left out there will be better... just depends on whats more important color/model or price. with color/model you want, the sooner the better. for price then hold off but chances are you will have to settle for something other than you want.
perfect example, i have someone now that wants a black or white 6spd enthusist and as of now there are only 12 total between the east coast and mid west

I purchased my '04 (1/2) during Christmas week, 12/29 or last year. So, '06 us moments away and Nissan found an '04 Touring laying around. The list on the car was, I want to say close to $34. Due to the age of the car and the time of the year (not just the end of the month but the end of the year) they were desperate to get rid of the car. I also am fairly good at purchasing cars (have bought close to 15 so far... I'm 52!), and was far from desperate myself to buy the car. Anyway, after some aggressive discussions, they gave it to me for $26,600, which at the time was a staggeringly good deal. My timing was about as good as it gets, both the time of the year and this very old car sitting in the showroom (it has a big bow on it!). The short answer to your question is, yes, the older the unit is, the better the deal you will get. If you can wait until late December, you will probably save a few thousand dollars over what you can save right now.
Good luck, the 350 is really a wonderful and entertaining car.

lol... ok.... a dealer is not going to lose 3k dollars just to move a car. i know better, i have been doing this a long time... the lights dont stay on and the bills dont get paid selling cars for less than you own them. they will only give what nissan is willing to give. if nissan puts dealer cash on a car or ads rebate to it they will give you all of that but they will not lose money selling a car...

2. you leased the car (ill revisit this one at a later time)
3. you rolled over negitive equity into your purchase
so to be truthfull you dont know what the hell you paid for the car. but when i get in at noon i will know when i go into lease link and run the numbers . but you yourself stated that you are paying 489 a month with 1k as down payment. and that is on a 60 month 12k lease..(i could get that lease number on 36 months with ZERO money out of pocket and 15k a year mileage)..THATS A WHOLE LOT MORE AND 32K.... with your down payment annd residual and your payments you are paying 43,340 for the car...now you rolled over some negitive equity into he car... but you dont know how much.... you have no earthly idea what they put into your trade. you know what they SHOWED you for the car... hell, you could have had equity in the miata trade. you have no way of knowing what the dealer paid for your trade....

Question
Hey JohnVictory,
You certainly seem to have an insiders perspective on this industry. My question to you is (would you take a moment and review my reply on this thread, from TMK988?). When I met with the finance guy (I put 15k down on the car and financed the rest), he seemed a little agitated. Eventually, he turned his computer screen towards me and asked me to look at a number, of course the screen was a spread sheet with much info on it. Well, he pointed to a number that was in the area of $4000. He then pointed to some other numbers, one was the MSRP, another the 'hold back' number, which was the first time I had ever heard of that. He told me that when the sales team came into him with the information about my deal, he was angry because it was, I suppose, not a good deal for the dealership. He told me that that $4000 or so number was what the dealer lost in this deal! I know that they couldn't have lost that much money, despite me paying $26,600 for a $34k car. I guess possible if this was just a straight deal, but I have to assume that either he was just trying to make me feel good (which I definately would have appreciated, but I didn't get the impressions that he was in the mood to be kind, it was late) or the dealer was getting some special deal because this was, really, a 2 year old car (it was new, it had 72 miles on it and the paperwork refered to it as a new car and this is a reputable dealer) as I purchased it three days before 2006. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Tom

if he was using the reynolds system and not adp then yes i can explain as im fimilure with reynolds.
was the 4000 dollar number in the botom right hand side of the screen? and was it 4000 or -4000?
i missed the fact that you stated your car was an 04 and i was thinking 05.
with your number its pretty easy to figure out. there was a 1000 dollar rebate on the car (could have been a little higher been a while since i worked 04 numbers ) and there was 2000 dollar dealer cash on the car because of its age that nissan put on it to help the dealer sell.. so that is 3000 dollars of the defeciency. the reynolds system doesnt show hold back as profit (for a reason, if the car cam from another dealer there is no hold back) it shows it as a loss if the dealership lets a customer get into the holdback. so if the hold back was 1000 dollars and you got all of it then it would show a -4000 dollar loss on the car, but the dealership actually broke dead even on it.
also if the dealership is holding rate. say you qualify for 6.24% but the dealership is putting you out at 7.34% then it does allow the dealership to discount the car into the hold back but not give up everything. it will then show it being a losing deal but the money is being made back up in rate. same thing applies with extended waranty and maintainance agreements or gap ins. most dealers dont like to do that though as you are giving up tangeble gross up for intangeble gross (if someone cancells the warranty, maintainance, gap, or refinances then the dealership never sees the profit and actually lost money.
hope this clarifies things a little

Thanks so much John for taking the time to explain all that! It was an '04 (actually it is the '04 1/2!). I got a 6% rate so maybe the dealer made some money on that but I didn't purchase any of the additional add on's like the extended warranty, etc. The salesman, who left the dealership shortly after he sold me the car, told me he was not paid a commission... and then tried, in a reasonably subtle way, to hit me up for a tip!!!! Anyway, I actually felt kind of badly that the dealer lost money on my deal, now it appears that they likely at lease broke even and hopefully in some accounting twist earned something down the road on the sale. It does seem that I probably got a pretty reasonable deal myself.
Thanks again,
Tom
