Default No LCD Cover?

I realize many of you have your Z for racing and probably don't have the nav system, but I thought I'd try anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't most nav systems come with a cover for the LCD display? For some reason mine did not, which I'm a little worried about as I don't live in the nicest part of LA. Anyone know what might be up with this and why I wouldn't have one eventho it seems standard?

Much Thanks.

What year is your Z? New or used? It should have a flip down lid that hides the nav system (manual pull down in older cars, power lid in newer ones). If your car is used, maybe it was broken off?

"Cover" for the display?

It should be in a 'cubby hole' with a door on it that either opens/closes manually or automatically. If yours came without the door, then you got taken across.

Did you buy your Z new or used?

I bought my car new about a week ago from a dealership. It's supposed to be a 2006 altho I just realized I never really physically checked on the car, but seems like that'd be a really rediculous thing for them to lie about. By the way, how would I check what year it is just to be 100% sure. But yes, no cubie hole because the Nav System is there, but no lid/cover of any sort what so over and it does not look like anything is broken or missing. Although at the top there is a bit of an overhang (odd). So I'm guessing no one else has something like this? Bummer... The odd thing about the car was that for some reason it's base invoice was less than the others, maybe this is why??? So do I have any recourse here? Shouldn't they have pointed out any non-standard features or lack of features when I was buying it?

I just looked at some pictures from the nissanusa website and some of the pictures have the same GPS w/o the cover as with my car. I'm thinking perhaps this is a change from the 2005 model? Anyone know?

Thanks.
- Chad

Chad, the 06 Nav does not have a cover for the LCD screen. I think nissan removed it because it was easy to break. Hope this helps

I'm assuming you bought it from a Nissan dealer. Bring it back and tell them to install the cubby door cover. I think it's NOT a new car, but a trade...otherwise the nav would have the flip down cover.

BUT..since he says he lives in a questionable area...he will need something to cover up the NAV...otherwise..he might as well paint a damn bullseye on his Z

Wow, really? That sucks. Yet another reason I'm glad I have an '03...

If yours is like the one pictured then you probably don't get one. That is wierd! My best advice to you is to get an old T shirt and drape it over the center console when you're gone.

I have an 03 with nav and the lid pulls out at the top and flips down.

Thanks for the info guys. My nav does look like the one in the picture. It's good to know that atleast my car isn't missing a part even if I'm advertising my nav system to the world. I'll probably do that shirt idea, which altho a little conspicuous, has got to be better than nothing.

Thanks again.

Well if it makes you feel any better, nobody as far as I have seen has been able to get a factory NAV to work in anything but a car that came with factory NAV, so the market for Z NAV is probably pretty small, even in a bad area.
