in a very upsetting issue of motor trend they compared roadsters. 350z touring, z4 3.0si and the solstice gxp. we came in last in just about everything. we were the slowest to 60, in the quarter mile and braking prob. bc the 350z is 500lbs more then the others. Well the solstice gxp came in first and costs less then $30,000. the z4 came in second and is $50,000 and the 350z was last and was listed at $38,845 and said the 350z "lives and dies on its lizard like styling". Also in the issue they compare the bmw 330i sport to the g35s and the 330i came out on top. Not a very positive issue of motor trend for us nissan/infiniti guys.

 

MF Motor Trend...It's a second rate car mag anyway. Those ***holes probably take kickbacks from car companies to put their cars in the best possible light.

 

Yeah we are not extreme in any category except price and that doesn't usually get reflected in the tests.

I was strongly leaning for the Z4 3.0 which is comparable or slightly better in performance but (i) I think the 350ZR looks better and (ii) I couldn't justify the price differential. Note the ZR never gets compared to the similar priced Z4 2.5.

I still love my Z though. The 330 will win because of its interior and fit and finish, but I certainly didn't go from my 3 series to a Z for interior comfort.

I still love my ZR.

Who cares if you're 0.10sec slower than the next guy? The solstice looks like a girls poo and the Z4 is way overpriced for what you get. I, personally, don't care that I don't have the fastest car for the buck. My car makes me happy... doesn't have to make the editers happy.

 

I could've sworn a Z4 3.0 was a bit slower than a Z. How much slower was the ZR?

Stopped reading the MT for the exact same reason. Flowers to the editors bought you a positive article. Switched to MPH and some other stuff.

 

Is the article that biased? I mean, if the ZR weighs 500 lbs more than the other cars in the comparison, it'll really be hard to make up for the dificiency. It's not like the ZR has much fatter tires to have more grip, or has way more power to make up for the weight handicap. It kinda makes sense that it comes in last, especially when it perfroms the worst. Not sure why people automatically bash the editors in this case.

Fact is most of the drivers on the road can't get that .10 of a second out of the car anyways. As long as it has a BMW or flashy badge on it to them it's "better".

 

Honestly, like someone else said, it all about personal taste. Who is going to do a slalom course on the way to work everyday or braking as hard as they can from 70MPH on a regular basis? Bottom line...these guys are comparing cars at the extreme end of their performance.
