Default Damn, new transmission!

Bah, I've been having a 5th gear grind for about 5k miles. I was waiting for it to become consistant before I took it to the stealership. At 15,329 miles, im having my first transmission changed. Double U Tee Eff?

That's not so bad. I had to get new tranny 3 weeks after I bought my car.
Mileage was under a thousand.

I've noticed my 5th gear grinding too when I hit 5th after leaving 4th redlined. I shift way too fast and I wouldnt be surprised if the the single cone synchro is just getting tired of putting up with it. Hopefully I'll break it and get a new tranny before it's not under warranty, but that is doubtful.

Your 5th gear would grind shifting normally or shifting aggressively?

Hey man which dealership did you take your car to? Are they mod friendly? Seems like it since you took your car there. Let me know which one cause my tranny sucks too.

Not bad, my first one went at 20K, 2nd one went at 30K and thrid one now at 56K is gonna blow!

Alberto<----soon to put in #4

Roast-5th gear has ALWAYS felt notchy/slight grind ever since the original tranny. Its also very hard to powershift 5th when racing because of this, so I lift for the 4-5

When placing pressure against the wall/gate of 5th upon entering, it feels "rough". When sliding it into 6th and pressureing on the gate it's smooth. I wonder wtf causes the gate to be rough?

Personally I hadn't experienced any problems at all with 5th until just recently(around 30k), and it's only when driving hard. When driving normally it's just fine(for now at least); I've never noticed 5th being notchy at all, (nothing like 2nd). Out of the blue 5th gear started crunching while speed shifting. It still goes into gear but it's not a friendly engagement. Sometimes I speed shift too fast for the trannys own good, and I think my 5th gear synchro is getting tired of putting up with it.

I had no idea you've went through so many trannys.

sorry i missed it..

It would grind anytime I didnt wait for the RPM's to drop to 2k rpm. So if i was in 4th at 3k rpm, and shifted w/o waiting for RPM's to drpo to 2k (a rev match basically) then it would grind. If i was going faster, it would be a harder grind.

ah it's cool... thanks for replying... seems like a more severe form of what I'm experiencing... my tranny has done OK so far. Not great but not bad either. My biggest complaint is still the notchiness of 2nd. I can always slow down the 4-5 shift when driving hard, because the need for a speed shift at those speeds really isn't there unless I'm trying to win a pissing contest, and it's not like that really matters. When I first passed the break-in... oh man... I was grinding the hell out of 2nd like a stripper working for a 20. It eventually worked itself out but it's still notchy and I don't like the feel of it. All of my other gears have been completely problem free up until now...

Good luck on the new tranny and keep us updated.

Well. I wonder if they'er going to replace the clutch too. Im damn tempted to have them install a flywheel/clutch while they're at it..
I'll have it back next friday, im giving it to them on Wednesday. Hopefully they'll fix some otherthings i've noticed like rear axle clicking, and a slight misalignment

I've also had rear axle clicking and car pulling to the right.
Have them fix it under TSB. As far as alignment they should do it for free too if your car is still pretty much new.

As far as JWT clutch/flywheel combo, by all means GET IT.
Night and day difference from stock, the clutch engages a lot sooner
and the car revs up and down MUCH quicker cuz of light weight flywheel.
I drove my friend's car on stock clutch/flywheel, and I was so frustrated at
how slow it revved.
