This bolt is for a babyseat tether.

roast, the bolt thing in your last picture you posted is for child seats to latch onto.

Have you taken out the extra weight from the hatch itself? There's like a 5lb dead weight that's just there for stock or wingless Zs. The dealership takes that out (supposedly) if you get a wing when you buy the car.

Have you thought about shaving the window wiper? That motor weighs like 10lbs too. If you don't use the wiper (I don't), just take it off. It's real easy.

What about relocating the battery to the rear? I know that would add a little extra weight with cable, but the distribution would probably be worth it. Could it be a h***ard being so close to the gas tank though??
I think it'd be easier just to buy a lightweight battery. Theres a groupbuy going on for the 11lb Braille battery.

Mine looked like that when I put the Infiniti Basslink in the compartment behind the driver seat, lol. I had this old Asian guy come by and ask me what I was trying to fix when I had half the interior ripped out and laying on the ground next to the car. Lol.

About 60lbs total. I don't have a good scale for weighing lightweight pieces, but I will see if someone around here has one I can borrow. If I can come across a better scale I will take a picture of each piece I removed and list it's respective weight. In the meantime I just piled everything up on a bathroom scale lol....

That's pretty awesome stuff. I was just reading a mag at Books a Million yesterday that shows you how to lose 210lbs from the Z. Of course this included getting a new hatch and battery but the article says you get about 20hp increase. I'll try to remember what mag this was and post later.

That was actually what started this fiasco. I couldn't find the thread I had seen about it though. (anyone have a link?) I do have the stock aerokit and wondered if I even had the weight; I thought I remembered some people saying they didn't have it. I didn't feel like taking the panels off just to see that I didn't have it, because the panels on the hatch didn't seem like they wanted to come off very easily and I didn't want to break them.

Have you thought about shaving the window wiper? That motor weighs like 10lbs too. If you don't use the wiper (I don't), just take it off. It's real easy.
I've thought about it. I didn't think the whole contraption weighed 10lbs though(thought it was more like 8?). I never really liked the wiper on the back to begin with from an aesthetics standpoint... but it does serve a purpose and I do use it from time to time. I could live without it though. When this car gets replaced as my daily driver, you can bet it's coming off.

I also don't want to get too carried away on the rear-end until I start taking weight off the front(which is easier said than done) and tweak the suspension accordingly. With 1/4 tank of gas I can tell the weight distro is much more front biased now, which I don't really like(but I love the weight savings). I can even see the rear end sits higher than before. People might be surprised how much just a little weight here or there can make a big difference in the cars dynamics, good or bad.

Is that rear strut bar acually functional or just to look pretty? By your pics I see it has holes and its not a solid piece. Does it have a tube welded to the chassis or something?

The rear strut bar is what you see, a box section that crosses from one side to the other, no tube or internal structure. I am fairly certain if it was not necessary, Nissan would have ditched it after the first year because every magazine writer commented on how it took up to much trunk space.

Yeah, if you removed the rear strut brace, it'd be nice and wide open

I stripped my trunk like that once. All my friends made fun of me so I put it back, . Also, I'd only had the car for a few months then so I just couldn't stomach stripping such a nice, newer car. I would love to strip the whole interior though for autocross, but the car's just still too new.

Because some people can afford to do things like this because its not their daily driver.
