Given that the Z makes a lot of road noise what kind of road noise do you have without those panels?

Nice job. There seems to be a lot of variance in the Z models. Hopefully I can get this C5 weighed soon. Not much to take out of it although some of you guys on here have proved me wrong.

Why would you do this? I've done this and mine is still gutted (too lazy to put everything back in) and I don't really recommend this unless those couple of pounds really, really, really matter to you.

It's even worse and it annoys me. I also have some of the other panels out, which makes it even louder. Again, I suggest keeping your panels where they are unless you take shedding weight very seriously, in which case doing only the panels will make you look like a posing ricer.

Man roast, that is some awesome weight loss. I definitely don't have the guts to do that. I hope you shed even more and hit the strip on a colder better conditioned day. I want to know what you'll run

I always thought it was funny to see cars with no interior cruising around. Like the Honda guys that drive around with one headlight taken out for "cold air" intake. I'd rather be a tad slower and not look like I got carjacked... but that's just me.

How do you notice if a car has it's interior when you're cruising around... especially the back of a Z? (you don't ) I've got tinted windows... you can only tell when looking from the front... and even then you'd have to be looking for it.... at meets and track events most people barely notice if at all...

hehe im completely used to it... my car is 4+ years old and the new wore off a longg time ago.... unfortunately I probably won't lose too much more weight any time soon. Flywheel and wheels are about the only items on my current list of "things to do" that will save weight and reduce 1/4 times. I will be beefing up other items for the track (road courses)...and will be adding LSD, sways, coilovers, etc...

I'd like to know what I'd run on a track with good prep and a sea level DA... this no prep and 3000ft DA sucks!

Its pretty easy to just take out the spare, tools, and matts. It around 40 lbs and takes around 5 minutes. Anything past there would be someone going for serious weight loss which most people arnt looking for.

Yes its a lot louder without rear matts (and i have test pipes and X02) but im planning on sound proofing the rear flooring before i head back to school in the fall.

Oh and the extra storage space without the spare is great.

Yeah it annoys the hell out of me... I'll swap out the Y-pipe one of these days and that should take care of it... when I was installing the pipes... the cat-to-ypipe bolts were a mother to get off... the header side bolts were cake (considering the space)... I was torquing on the ypipe side bolts pretty hard.... my guess is the ypipe either cracked or the heat shield is loose....

I'm uploading a video right now on youtube of the last track day i attended... it's like 9 minutes long so it will probably be uploaded and processed some time next year...

Here it is. Notice toward the end... where I was on the track with the rx7, viper, and gt500.... I was putting down faster laps than the gt500.... I'm not sure why.... I didn't even notice until I just now edited the video.... That viper was sick though.... that thing was fast as hell and on slicks to top it off....

Panning shots at the end of the video.

The first clips with the slower cars was my first session and my first time on this track... fresh brake fluid and new pads/rotors that hardly had a chance to get bedded in... so no I was not pushing the limits on the first session... unfortunately no cookies were being awarded for sinking my car to the bottom of the pond.....

The clips with the faster cars was my 5th session and I was pushing hard enough to put some distance on that GT500.... that's hard enough as far as I care. It may not look like it from that vantage point, but I assure you I was pushing the limits far enough with my daily driven stock suspension/tires.

A little question on the side.... since most of the weight is taken out of the back half of the car, your weight distribution would be adversly affected... stock is 53/47, obviously the lesser weight gives great performance...esp from a dead stop start... but what about cornering? Would this be a negative of weight reduction?

Like others I'm interested in weight loss on the car but I don't want to gut it and there isn't much to be lost on the front.

The weight reduction has helped handling more than any adverse effects from the change in F:R distribution... one detrimental handling effect is that I notice bumps more and the rear feels a little less planted when hitting bumps.... but it still corners harder and accelerates/stops faster. Excess weight is pretty much bad for performance regardless of where it comes from...
