Default Z as daily driver

ok my Z is my daily driver to school work etc etc.. the point is i read in the manual that its not really good to drive to one spot..turn your car off an then after a couple minutes or (30) get back an drive somewhere else an so on an so on..so my question is..does it really affect the car if i kept doing this?

Default The problem with short hops is temperature.

If you never let it get hot, condensation causes problems in the long run. Did you ever notice the water that drips from your tailpipes when you first start up? That's condensation (and the real cause of exhaust system rust in most cases - they rot out from the inside).

The oil never reaches operating temperature on 5 minute drives either. Internal condensation contaminates the oil - it will vaporize once the oil gets up to operating temp, so it doesn't cause any problem. But if it stays in contact with the oil, it forms an emulsion that looks a little like mayonnaise but doesn't lubricate as well - .

If you only drive short distances, change your oil much more frequently and the engine should be fine. With only local driving and low mileage (like less than 500 mi a month), I'd change my synthetic and filter every 1500 miles or 3 months. If you plan to keep the car for years, I'd put on a stainless exhaust before everything rusts enough to make R&R a real pain.

Its not necessarily bad for the car, but its not good either. Like dave said, change the oil more frequently, and you will also be going through gas quicker.

What are you doing that is causing you to start and stop it so often?

don't worry about it, the car will likely out last your ownership, just drive it however you want

na these engines are designed to last for 200k miles, if it worries you tho just let the thing warm up longer before you go anywhere

For all the big deals we make about oil change intervals etc, I bet there aren't more than 3 poeple on this board who've ever had an oil-related failure in a car they bought with less than 100k on it. I never have.

Not to mention you will need a starter before the average Z driver.

I daily drive my Z also, but the commute to work is 22 miles each way.
