Because of its superior resistance to thermal breakdown, synthetic is especially well suited for turbo applications. And unlike conventional petroleum oils, it also resists coking and ashing, which are a major cause of turbo failure.

I have 40K on my 03 Z and now that i bought out my lease, I want to switch to Royal Purple. I've been running RP in my motorcycle, dirtbike and hot rod for years and never did it in the Z because it was a lease. I was told from a guy at the shop not to go directly from conventional to synthetic. that u should use conventional with synthetic additives first for the first two oil changes and progress to a full synthetic like royal purple.

I asked the exact same question to both Castrol and Mobil. I received a similar response from both companies. Castrol's response is listed below.

Thank you for contacting Castrol North America.

With current technological advancements, there is no 'break in' period
required before using Castrol synthetic oils. A quality synthetic
motor oil
can be used in new and older vehicles. In fact, many car companies
(including BMW and Volkswagen) are using Castrol SYNTEC as the primary
oil
used in their new vehicle engines.

Castrol always recommends following the guidelines of the manufacturer,
and
if a specific break in period is required, Castrol suggests following
those
recommendations.

Thank you again for your interest in Castrol, The Technology Leader!
