350Z vs. Cayman S
I was actually in a similar situation as you, where I was going to get either a Grand touring 350Z, a porsche cayman, or a mercedes SLK 350. I ended up going with the 350Z since I managed to pick up a barely used 06 GT for atleast half the price of what a new cayman would have ran me, and a good amount lower than the SLK. Plus im just in college right now, so I don't want to have too nice of a car for now anyways.
Although I must say that once I am out of college, I am planning on probably getting something nice like a used SL, 911, or maybe even finally buy a new cayman S.
I guess its all on your situation, and if you are okay with spending all the extra money.

The Cayman S is a nice car with a even nicer legacy behind it. But the only problem's that I have with that car is Price Difference, Parts Price Difference. If you like both just get the 350 and put the extra money into customizing it. For the difference in what both cars cost you can make the 350 outperform the Cayman S and still look good doing it. But then again it is a Porsche, so....Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The Cayman S, is a better buy and I own a turbo Z. People are forgetting that its NOT ALL PERFORMANCE when buying a car. Porsche has AWESOME AWESOME dealer satisfaction, and their warranty coverage is WAY better then nissan thats for sure.
- INTERIOR, the nissan CANNOT touch the quality of the porsche interior.
-TRANNY, TEN times better then the Z, smooth and strong and you RARELY hear of problems with the tranny.
-Engine, power is good enough and the car as actually pulled 4.8 to 60 times and 1/4 mile times of 13.4 which is sorry to say not a small difference, its a big difference compared to a 1/4 mile time of 14.1 on the Z.
-Weight- all said and done, it still weighs less then our Z
-BRAKES- Ill say if you get the regular brakes on the cayman then the brembos are about equal, I wont compare the upgraded brakes b/c their is NO comparison to the porsche ceramic brakes.
-HANDLING- is hands off way way better then the Z stock for stock, BUT the cayman S comes with better tires from the factory.
SO if you were to ask me if it was worth the extra 30k, I would say no but its def worth an extra 20k or so. If I was you I would go with the cayman S, you cannot beat out fit and finish of a porsche. The Z is a GREAT car for the price, and can hang with most of the finest cars out there right now. Its your choice ultimately, I wouldve got the cayman but Im already 30k into my Z lol and refuse to sell it. If I wouldnt of had my Z already when the cayman came out I wouldve bought the porsche in a second without even thinking.

my friend recently got a cayman s. It's a very nice car, that car sticks to the road like glue. One thing i thought was odd was that the shift pedal is real high... My friend got like the showroom car that had like way too many options and he ended up paying like 75 out the door haha.
Anyways, you might want to look into maintenance cost too. My friend tells me it's like over a 100 bucks for an oil change?

they can get higher than that. go to the website and build one and start adding all the little carbon fiber interior accents and stuff with the ceramic brakes and it jumps way up there. the one im looking at next week as a asking price of 62 and its used
since you're even considering the Cayman S, then you obviously don't mind spending an extra $30k (or an extra Z) on it. So really, it is ur choice. It is not all performance.. and it is not all looks either.
my personal opinion.... unless I had alot of money, I would not buy the Cayman S. Everything about the Cayman is alittle better than the Z, but I do not warrant that the extra $30k you spend on it. You're paying mostly for the name.
Also... as some have said regarding the rarity of the cayman... it is not as true as you might think. Caymans are rare but you'll very rarely ever see a cayman with many mods done to it. For the extra $30k, you could slap on a turbo and some other mods that, in the end, will make your Z much more rare and eye catching than a stock cayman.
My choice with the $$$ I have? Z....

It blows the Cayman and the Z out of the water in performance. And looks better IMO.

The Cayman vs. the 350Z.
If you are not a German car guy or a Porsche guy and you could care less about impressing the neighbors and could care less about the $ differential I would go with the Cayman S.
On the other hand if you do care about the above and are going to track the car, but still don't care about the $, I would go with the Cayman S.
But, on the hand you have left, if you want a car that is cool looking, fun to drive and fairly maintenance free and you want to save a few $ go for the Z.
Amongst a few cars that I own, are the 350z roadster and a Boxster S. I was going to trade the Z in for a Cayman S. I do like the looks of the Cayman S, more than the 911. About the same as the Z. But, once common sense prevailed the fun factor in the Cayman S vs. the fun factor of the 350ZR, the Cayman was not $25,000 more fun. Even if I planned on tracking the Cayman it still is not worth the extra $ to me. For the money the Z is a terrific value.
The Z is also a much more comfortable car to drive, especially on long trips. It is much more comfortable than the Cayman. For everyday driving and fun and $ I believe the Z is the way to go.
