Things you wish you knew when you bought your Z?
Hi,
Lately I've been doing a lot of reading on these boards, trying to find out as much information as I could (search has become my best friend). I've pretty much come to the decision that I want to get a 2006 Z Grand Touring, with the sirius and side airbag options. According to Edmunds.com the invoice price of the GT is $33,695, so this is the price I'm going to try to haggle to.
Anyway, the point of my post is really to ask, "What do you know now that you wish you knew when you purchased your 350z?" Options you didn't get that you wish you did, or maybe vice versa. Nuances about the Z that new owners might not notice at first, or things to watch out for. I'm not really asking questions about mods (yet), as I don't plan to do anything to the Z in the near future... however I know how the mod-bug can bite so that's not a permanant thing.
I know many people are thinking "why not just use the search feature more?" Well, this is really to get some responses to questions that I haven't thought of yet, if that makes sense.
Thanks in advance!

actually im very interested in this thread, the first thing i research when trying to get a car is what is wrong with it
so far ive read about the tranny issue (cleared up on 06's though right) and a skipping 6 cd changer (does the single changer skip), abnotmal tire wear (again cleared up or at least reduced with the 06 right?)

I wish I knew I was going to track the car. I would have bought the track edition instead of spending $1600 on a (albeit better) front BBK. For what I am doing the brembos would have been good enough.
I also wish I knew how much fun they were to drive hard in the twisties, then I would have known that I would want to take them to the track in the first place. The road test was no indication. I thought it would be a good street car (which it is), but didn't realize how good of a track car it is. Nice predictible handling even all stock

Welcome.

I wish I knew how capable the 350Z handles.
After several times on an open road course, and several days at autocross, the 350Z still amazes me. The cars potential takes practice to master. Lots and lots of practice.

I wish I knew that the paint is terrible and needs to be protected immediately after purchasing.
I wish I wasn't so impressed during the test drive. In retrospect I would have like to have test driven an EVO and other comparable cars at the same time. I dunno why...just for due diligence I suppose.
I wish I would have known about the rev-up engine. Not that I could have afforded a brand new Z but it would have been nice to know while I was looking at 03's.

I was just thinking the other day, the Z is the one car that makes teh most FANTASTIC first impression. The engine noise, the driver oriented gauges, teh 6 speed, the stiff clutch, and the over all appearance. I guess it really can grow old sometimes, but when you do a nice drift around a turn and all the gweedo 16 yr olds stare at you, it makes you feel all better.. Oh and the hot beeches on campus. They all stare
Kind of common sense but, with the height the Z sits at, park away from Soccer mom vans SUVs and crossovers or anything for that matter. That beutiful crease right in the middle of the door is a target for hyper kids who kick the doors open on the beasts that everyone drives these days . don't risk it.it will happen.
