Default 4th gear on the auto 350z

I was wondering is their anything that i can possibly do to make 4th gear in the auto faster while i'm still able to maintain the pulling power i have in 1-3 gear, gears possibly? I just don't understand the auto and manual are pretty close im comparison to speed but yet the 4th gear in the auto doesn't pull like the 6 speed because of the extra gear on the manual. Can anyone give me some advice or suggestions of what i should do other than getting a 6 speed.

Final drive swap. Get the MT or 3.5 swap done and all your gears will be faster, at teh expense of a lower top spseed

still higher than the limited top speed of 155.
You have a few options
3.5FD
3.7FD
3.9FD
4.1FD (i think..)

Obviously since this is the final drive, your speed will be reduced accordingly. You're currently on 3.3FD

There are some turbo guys who would kill for a gear swap with you. The 3.5 is stock on Manuals. A lot of turbo guys want a higher top speed and longer gears for tractions. So a manual <-> auto swap is easy to find if your the owner of an auto. Post in the regional section and ask for a swap. I believe if its just a direct swap, its real easy to do.

Im not too sure, but i think on autos, if you switch out to 3.7 or 3.9, ur gears become too short, and your cruise control no longer works. So a 3.5 swap is useful. Manual NA guys swap to 3.9 and its a 10% improvement in acceleration.

How are you figuring 10%?

10% of a 14 second quarter mile is 1.4 seconds. Show me one instance of a 14 second Z running 12.6 with a simple FD swap.

I think an improvement of .2 seconds in the quarter mile is a bit more believable... which is closer to 1%.

I guess 10% came from his feelometer or buttometer.

Marques1... Do The Swap W/ A 6mt Lsd.. 4th Gear Will Pull Like Your 3rd In The A/t...after My Swap I Had To Shift 5mph Sooner In 1st Gear At About 31/32 Mph...but What A Differnce.. You Will Hit 2nd Right In The Powerband... In 1st You Will Have Slight Wheel Spin Through The Whole Rpm Range Right To 6600, But The Car Will Be Pulling Hard The Whole Time.

Default It's about a 10% change in torque multiplication

3.3 to 3.7 is a change of 0.4/3.3, which is actually 12%. Multiplying the current ET by the amount of ratio change will not give you an accurate performance projection (i.e. if you run a 14 second quarter with a 3.3, you will not run a 12.32 with a 3.7). But this is a real increase in torque multiplication at the driving wheels and you will accelerate faster and pull harder with it, even though you won't break 13.

thanks briandt3wz and davez insanity both of you are a great help. I was thinking about going turbo but damn its so expensive im think im going to wait for people to make some ground breaking performance if it ever happens and then really start modding. If i stay na i will for sure go with the 3.5fd so thanks for the input.

I bought mine from Jim at turbo-toys located in Florida,, found him somewhere on this forum and will get his phone # for you if you like. It was $475 shipped to NY, should not take you any longer than two hours to install... you will also have no problem selling the 3.3 pumpkin, I sold mine in one day in the marketplace... So, this Mod really only cost me $25.00 and showed the biggest gain......

Final Drive swap is the single best mod you can do to an N/A car. The 3.5 FD from the manual Zs will lower ur 1/4 about a half second, which is significant for such a small mod.

wrong where in the hell did you get your info from, all it does is make you shift into 4th at the end of the 1/4.but around town driving it is a big difference.when at the track the auto is great untill you have to shift into 4th thats when you loose everything you just gained.

I Don't Track My Car,, But I See U Have The Auto, So Maybe You Can Answer This In Case I Decide To Run The 1/4 Mile... If I Increase The Rev-limiter To 71 Or 7200,, Would I Be Able To Stay In 3rd Gear Going Thru The Traps ?
