My 03 Enthusiast is going in for warranty & recall work
I'm putting my 03 Z in the local dealership shop this Monday. I've got terrible grinding into 3rd so I think it's the snchros? I only have 31K so it's covered under the drivetrain warranty. I'm also having the gas filler neck deal replaced on the TBS recall.
How could or would the dealership not try to cover the tranny issue? What is in it or not beneficial for a dealership to do warranty work on my car? By replacing the tranny does this only pay them reduced labor hours and no profit on parts? I want to know why a dealership would refuse to fix something under warranty and try to blame it on you? I've read horror stories here and other places of bad dealerships that try to get out of doing warranty work.

Suggestion: Don't go to the dealership with a chip on your shoulder expecting them to give you trouble. Almost all dealerships will handle warnty claims appropriately. They know that owner's can appeal to the manufacturer, and the manufacturer's area rep can make things hard on unresponsive dealerships.
The manufacturers pay dealerships a lower rate for warranty work than the dealership would charge for customer pay. So there is less compensation.

A recall has nothing to do with a warranty. Your car can have 100 or 100,000 miles and NISSAN will take care of the recall.
The transmission is covered by the power train warranty. Correct.

Just FYI, Toyota issued a recall for a faulty A/C component on '91 MR2s. They are still fixing them, 15 years later.

1 thing of importance with my car. The VDC doesn't work properly but I think it's due to some damage in the front, passenger side suspension? When I take hard left turns when the weight is transferred to the right I hear a clicking or stuttering in to the front, right wheel well. I assume something is screwed up in there? I bought this car a month ago and I knew it was in a front end wreck on that side. The frame is straight as I had it checked but I think they didn't put it together correctly or there is some bent suspension parts in there? I have to get it fixed, I know. I bought this redline 03 enthusiast with 30K on it for $15,000 so you see I knew I took on some problems. Other than that the car looks flawless and the engine is strong and drives great except when cornering hard left and of course the tranny problem now.
Would Nissan give me **** for the existing problems in the front suspension for a reason not to cover the tranny issue? I also have an extended warranty, 5yrs/100K.

Fuel tank is a recall. As I mentioned, it is unrelated to any warranty.
If you are dissatisfied with dealer service, the proper steps to be taken are outlined in your warranty book. I suggest that all contacts with NISSAN be in writing.

if it grinds every time you shift into third, they will fix it free for 5year/60k , with a new tranny and clutch disc. if it only grinds 60% of the time, it might not grind on their testing and they will not fix it. and i dont think suspension has anythign to do with it... they probably wont even realize.
it took me 2 years since the day it started grinding for them to see that it was grinding. by then, every downshift would grind sooo bad, worse if you are in higher gears, ie 6-3, 5-3 VERY FRUSTRATING.
