Default 60,000 Powertrain Warranty Help

I'm going to see my dealership tomorrow to see if my tranny will be cover. Everyone knows the 3rd gear grind. Pretty hard to drive aggressively knowing that it will not go into gear. LOL. Now it's got to point where all the gears seems pretty knotchy. Nothing serious, though. My question to the forum is "will I have a problem getting the warranty?" I do have some mods. More specificly, I have a JWT Clutch and Flywheel. I dont have a short shifter. The rest of the mods are engine related. Will the dealership turn me down in regards to my aftermarket parts? Does anyone have any advice on what to say to the dealership? The tranny problems happen prior to the JWT install. Actually thought it was a clutch/flywheel problem, that's why I changed it. I even changed to better fluids and replace the clutch line to SST clutchline. No change to the shifting. Thank you in advance for the advice.

Did a nissan dealer install them? If not then youre probably SOL. Unless you find a mod friendly dealer.

Legally, unless they prove that either of those mods caused the damage, they are responsible for the costs of parts and labor.

Realistically, they can say no and you'd have to get a lawyer to fight it. They may give you crap about the flywheel, but I really don't think its a cause of the problem.

Was there a TSB for tranny issues?

I'd be surprised if they cover it with an aftermarket clutch and tranny.

FYI, I had an ACT clutch in my 97 Maxima, and despite it being supercharged with an 11psi pulley, I blew three trannies in it, was only getting around 8-10k on each tranny. The car was out of warranty so I didn't bother with the dealer.

It was later proven that the ACT was too hard on the internals and would cause the gears to shatter. Other members on maxima.org had similar problems with the ACT, meanwhile people with even more power and different clutches never had the problems the ACT guys did.

Unfortunately a clutch and flywheel are major components of the transmission so it's way too easy for a dealer to say, "No".

Figure they would turn down... but it was worth a shot. I guess i'm in the market for a new tranny. Well, the problem isn't too bad, after i installed the SST clutchline. The problem is there, just not as bad. Thanks for opinions guys.

I have the same 3rd gear grind. I just took my Z in this morning for a new tranny under the powertrain warranty and I'm also doing the fuel tank/hose recall work. I also have an extended warranty and I am having other things looked at in the car and fixed or replaced where needed. I'm sure my car will be in the dealership for at least a week?

New tranny, I can't complain... But then again Nissan put the wrong trannys in the '03s anyway. So really it wastes our time and we lose our car for a week or so. They better not try to charge me for anything. I'm covered also on a 5yr/100K extended warranty. They can have fun with that as long as they take care of my baby.

The third gear should have been a recall in the first place. I have a vortech on my z and ya, third gear grinds. I too am in the market for a tranny. You can find them on here cheap, problem is finding an 05, or 06 cheap. What can you do? Oh well... Good luck to ya.
