Default 1st ticket tonight

Well, after driving for roughly 8 years, I finally got my first speeding ticket.
(or any ticket for that matter).

I know, its kind of ironic. I just got the Z about 4 months ago, so I had it coming, right? Wrong! I wasnt driving it. I was driving my gfs Honda Civic!

I was driving her back home after picking her up from college and passed a cop (he was driving in the same direction). He wrote me up for 72 in a 65!

I was amazed that he would write a ticket for something so minute. He said that he was following me for 3.4 miles. I asked how he could get a reading if he was traveling in the same direction, and he said that he knew that I was moving faster than he was.

The ticket was only about $120, but I'm sure my insurance will definitly go up because of this. So, needless to say, this one is getting fought.

Default good idea

you should definately fight that, that was unnecessary and that cop was just a dick. i just fought a ticket and went to court, when i was in the room i noticed that out of about 30 or 40 people fighting tickets only 3 cops showed up to stand for their ticket. you have a good chance if you fight it, its worth a try and dont cost anything even if the officer comes and you lose, well thats the way it is here in cali im not sure were u live

Courts are usually so crowded you stand a good chance of at min. getting the fine reduced, points removed and no school (if you have that).

In the future though you might not want to pass cops doing anything over the speed limit. Why take the chance?

I know, it was not smart to pass. But I was only going @70 past him. Her car does not have cruise control, so I couldnt set it at a certain speed. Of course, over the distance of 3 miles, your speed will fluctuate a few mph (especially in PA with the many hills). And the worst part is, this was only several miles from our exit...this was after driving for @ 2 1/2 hours.

Your defense is simple. A Honda will not go 72mph!

Yeah passing a cop on the highway period is just stupid. Most of the time they are only on the highway for a few exits and then they get off, just be patient!

Pay the ticket, go to traffic school online (no insurance hike). You were speeding, you might think 72 is not bad, but speeding is speeding. I got a ticket last week and was not happy, but I made my bed, so now I have to sleep in it. trafficschoolonline.com is a good one. Check to make sure you can use it in your area.

Speedo's in police cruisers are certified. The cruisers themselves are speed enforcment devices.

We have no defensive driving schools in PA. Unfortunately that is not an option.

I would take a hearing. He may not show up so it'll get kicked. It can be reduced to a section other than "speeding."

Although its not smart to pass a cop and go over the speed limit I think this was a b.s. ticket really. Good luck man.

Yea bad idea on passing the cop. I always try to stay at their speeds behind them till they exit. Annoying as hell when you're in a rush tho. good luck with the ticket.

Sorry to hear that, but it could be worse!

Last month I got my first ticket. The very next day, I got my second. Could not believe my luck/stupidity!

First was for 76 in 55 and not having a Colorado license (had WI instead), the second for 44 in 35 (was doing 50; the officer was nice enough to drop it by one level).

Was required to go to Denver County Court for the first one. In two seconds flat, the judge dismissed the license charge and changed the speeding ticket into one for making an illegal left turn. 9 points went down to 2 and the fine was $90. I must be more charming than I thought

I didn't bother appearing in court for the second one and just paid the $35 fine.

My advice would be to definitely go to court. Be very well-dressed and polite and state why you believe the charge should be reduced or dismissed. Don't argue unnecessarily and don't act pompous. Judges are people too, and respect always begets respect.

When You Go To Court, Ask One Of The Court Officers You Want To Plea It Down, He Should Point You In The Right Direction.. The Ada Will Look At Your Record And Reduce It So You Won't Recieve Any Points On Your License... They Can Drop It To Some Other B.s. So It Will Not Effect Your Insurance.. Or You Can Straight Up Fight It And Take The Chance,,, But All He Has To Do Is Pace You On The Hwy To Write A Ticket....good Luck
