Had a nice long drive the other day and decided to stop in Chinatown to stock up on some instant noodles. I parked the car and started to walk away from the car and did the ritual turn around look when I noticed a really bad smell and then to my horror, I saw white smoke coming from the front bottom of the Zed.
I freaked out and opened up the hood swearing to myself that a sports car shouldn't be smoking after only a half hour of spirited driving. Couldn't locate the smell and the smoke in the hood, so I looked under the car.
That's when I saw that a thin plastic bag was melted onto my exhaust. I felt instant relief right away. I tried to take off as much of the plastic bag as I could but of course there are some plastic layers that I can't get off. It's been two days now and that aweful plastic smell is still there. Is there anything else I can do other then just drive until it burns all the way off?
Thanks.

That happened to me a while back ago & I freaked out as well. I smelled this horrible burning smell everytime I opened my door & I later found out it was a plastic bag that got caught on my Y-Pipe. You prett much have two choices:
(1) Let it eventually burn off naturally which may take a few weeks.
(2) Put it on a lift & melt it off with a heatgun.

Had a plastic bag get tangled up in my front passenger wheel/rotor once. It came out from under a truck in front of me, no time to react. I didn't see it in my rearview so I knew it was hung up somewhere, just didn't think there. By the time I got home it had melted to hell. A good hours worth of work to remove that melted glob...what a smell.

This is a burning hot exhaust we are talking about. Once the plastic bag touches the exhaust pipes, the surface of the plastic bag will melt and stick onto the hot exhaust pipe.

Be thankful your ordeal didn't end up with you sporting a pimpalicious Ford Taurus and a bill from the nissan dealership for $2K.

Same thing happened to me! I was driving and this plastic bag comes flying on my lane and goes under. I look back to see if the bag went under the car but it didnt. I pulled in the side street and i managed to remove the plastic bag before it could get any worse. Their were some plastic left but i managed to remove it.
