Default Just bought an extended warranty for my Z

I feel so much better knowing that my car will be covered by Nissan for the next 4yrs/48k miles.

I got the extention because recently my windows stopped rolling and the dealer wanted $1000 for the repairs. So I decided since an extended warranty wasn't that much more than the repair I got it.

But now I would like to know what kind of services should I expect to get for my warranty?

The ash/coin tray in my Z doesn't click in place anymore. Will the warranty cover that?

Hmmm...I would have wanted to know that before I spent the mony for the warranty.

And if you read your warranty it will tell you what is covered.

You should read your ext warranty docs! Some only cover the power tran, others will cover electrical, etc... Personally, I'll pass on ext warranties! Dealing with them is 10x worse than the dealership to get something done under warranty.

You mean your window stopped working, dealer wants $1,000 to repair and your original warranty is gone. Then you decided to get the extended warranty for over $1,000, after than the dealer fixed your window under the extended warranty coverage???

I didn't know you can buy extended warranty AFTER the problem has occured and the dealer will fix the problem that occured BEFORE you purchased the extended warranty.

Correct me if I am wrong in trying to understand what you mean.

I am considering getting an extended warranty from warrantydirect.com

They are rated one of the best extended warranty companies b/c they offer different packages and they pay the shops (that you choose) directly.

I bought an extended warranty for my 2001 GTP, a couple of years back. I bought the car used with 33K miles, and it was in excellent condition, black, graphite leather, every option.

I normally pass on the extended warranty, but this time I had a feeling I better do it. That feeling payed off. At 39K miles, 3K over warranty, the transmission's input drive shaft snapped. It was replaced under warranty, and the transmission they put in, which was supposed to be new, was bad, replaced again under warranty.

After 2-3 weeks of my car being in the shop, I got it back with the 3rd transmission, and drove it straight to Nissan, where I traded it in on the Z. I was able to get a refund on the warranty as well. I got back $1,300 or so, out of the $1,500 I paid. It was a very good investment!

You should definitely read the coverage before signing though.

Window not rolling down, blown motor, is covered by an extended warranty. My warranty just saved me about $300 on this repair

+ 1 on a waste of money.

If something breaks down after the original 3 year warranty is over with, the dealer will claim that whatever breaks on your car after that 3 year period, will be considered normal wear an tear.

The only exception might be the motor itself.

Since I'm having small block problems, I thought it might be a good idea to buy it later on down the road if it's offered to me but I have not heard of any great success stories about people getting anything fixed under an extended warranty.

I guess you didn't read my story.

Not only did they replace my transmission and put me in a rental car for 2 weeks. When I sold my car, I got back $1,300 of the $1,500 I paid for it.

In this case, it was an excellent investment, and I had no idea going in that I would need it, but had a feeling I should go ahead with the extended warranty.

Allow me to explain why I think extended warranty is a waste of money.

Have you ever thought why all dealers want to sell you extended warranty?
Is it because the dealers are so worried and concered about you having to pay extra $$ to fix your car after the original warranty has expired?
Or is it they want to make extra $$$ off of you?

Dealers are not stupid, they are here to make money (which is perfectly fine). They know the amount of money that will be spent for repairs during the extended period coverage are generally less than what you pay for the extended warranty. That's how dealers make $$ on extended warranties.

Therefore, the majority of people that buy the extended warranty will end up paying more. However, there will be exceptions. It's whether you want to take the risk or not, but the odds are against you if you buy extended warranty.

Have you ever thought why the manufacturer warranty is only for 3/36,000 miles

I had a fuel injector replaced on my extended warranty for my old Z32 convertible. It was like fighting with Mike Tyson trying to get them to pay the $700 bill. They were total ****** when trying to make a claim. I paid about $1,500 for the warranty so I lost about $800 net. Wasn't good. Make sure you research the warranty company first. Don't let the scummy salesman try to talk you into it at the lot. You can buy a warranty on your own off the internet if you think you need one.
