If its any consolation, my buddy has got an x5 with the 4.4 and theyre no joke when it comes to SUVs. Just as long as you can take out ricers you're golden.

I will make this easy for you. I own both, a touring 350Z and a 4.4l X5. Both in white

Get the X5. In MY opinion the Z isnt worth the money unless you buy like an 03 for 18 grand. But certainly not a new one. The X5 4.4 is a joy to drive, its sporty, its elegant, its spacious and thus more user friendly. Better chick magnet, the name, and if you get it new you get free brake servicing, check ups, service maintenance etc..

You can use it all year round too.

Just a much better pick. Now if you insist on having something sporty and fun, forget the Z and and get the G35. Spory, economical, 4 seats and u can use it everyday.

If you can afford an X5, dump the Z. If I can afford an X5, I get a C6. My family has owned a BMW V8 530i, until I see a BMW last more than 10 years than I'll dive into one. Just look how many 10 year old BMW do you see compare to other cars. I would not touch a BMW until they get at least a 6 year warranty on them, my family paid 2K twice for repairs. Unless you buy a car every couple years then there goes my points. Living in Seattle, the Z definitely doesn't fit, but there are plenty of AWD options. Good Luck!!

I live in Seattle as well, and I dont see what the big deal about the Z is. I do fine with my Z here in the rain (It doesn't rain here as much as everybody thinks). And it snows what, like 4 days a year here?

If you really need AWD, get the infiniti G35x. You will have have fun due to the sporty feel of the car, and you will get way better gas mileage than the X5.

Its also worth noting that BMW replacement parts are very VERY expensive once you are out of warranty. My Father's 750il needed new rear shocks after 7 years, and they were $470 dollars EACH. Something to think about.

i would really like to know where are you going with this... seriously whats your point!!!! When your father was looking for a car he wasn't is $9K price range and he didn't buy nice, shiny and brand new dodge neon base,
He got himself best available luxury car for under 100K so... when you're going so high don't say out loud that 470 for a rear shock is a lot,

FYI set of shocks for neon is only $160+shipping other parts dirt cheap as well... so If youre not about quality, go for it...
You'll get what you paid for

Well as far as BMWs go. Ive owned one before. Infact i own one right now. My BMW 325is lasted over 250k and ran and looked brand new and its still probably out there. Well taken care of BMWs last for a LONG time. Most of the newer BMWs are owned by people who could much less care about taking the car for a tune-up. But i think ive made my decision. Ive wiggled some extra cash out by getting rid of a few things, and it seems that im just going to get the X5 and keep the Z since its paid for. Seems like a logical choice.

And thats why I never go directly to the dealership for overpriced parts. Older BMWs are for people who can work on the car themselves, because install at a dealership or BMW specialist is most likely going to be high.

German cars always feel COLD, distant and "Teutonic" <<Car and Driver's favorite word for "zee third reich's automobiles".

Their cars are JUST like the people who made them....

As much as I like the look of the Audi....I'd never buy one
