Received a new center console today... Someone please check for comparsion.
A few weeks back my parking brake was adjusted and in the process the gasket around the brake was destroyed. Because you can't just get the gasket itself, my dealership had to order an entire new center console. I think there has been a revision in the way the big compartment opens because my old door would barely spring open if at all and the new console door POPS open to a halfway mark (~45 degrees) at which point you can open it the rest of the way. It feels a lot more solid and stays open at a full 90 degrees upright.
Would someone with an older car (pre 2000 VIN) check their compartment door and see if it operates like I've described the new one. It has only been six months, but I can't remember the original storage compartment door feeling this sturdy.
Thanks!

Glad they messed up that gasket!
Muine has done both (Vin 0153) It depends on how far back the removable cup holder piece is in the compartment. If it is crammed in there all the way against the back it will not open. If you slide it forward it does ok.

I also have to push the release button and dig the lid out. When the car was being demonstrated to me by the salesman, he pushed the button and I could tell he was surprised that the lid did not open part way. (vin 4498) There must be a spring in the hinge which is not strong enough to push past the sticking point.
Similar to the rear deck not opening fully as some have noted. The hatch has a rubber covered spring which pops the deck up when the latch is opened. That spring probably isn't strong enough to do this on some 350s.
Sounds as if Vandy and mcclaskz may have uncovered yet another problem. Nissan is making cars with duplicate VIN numbers. This should be good for a posting string well into the 100's.

Mine works fine. No offense Vandy, but I'm actually 000153.

Mine was the same way until I took two felt dots (Lowe's) the size of a old #2 pencil eraser and stuck them on top of the rubber dots.
Works great and the door opens as it did periodically before. It has something to do with the rubber being to sticky and the spring not wound to tight.
