I'd wait for the 07 and pickup an 06 when the dealers are trying to dump what they have on their lot. The last of an old technology is better than the first of a new technology. Although the HR isn't really THAT big a leap technologically from the revup.

its funny reading some of this the HR engine is light years better than the reg VQ35DE

it will have a much stronger block, i bet with just a flash 8k will be nothing with everything else stock internally. which leads me to believe the gearing will be more agressive .and i would bet money that the car puts down 275whp + stock and just the sound oh the true dual Intake and exhaust would sound nuts.

Trust me go 07 thats what iam waiting on

(Scroll to the very bottom of the page for the 350Z info.)

This is the only authoritative info I've seen so far about changes for the 2007 350Z, and the details are pretty scarce. Hopefully we find out more about the new model soon!
Finally a response to the links! Thanks!

I second this. I was jsut about to purchase an 06 when the news started to really trickle in about the 07. From the research I've done, the VQ35HR is going to be hot!

From what I've heard I would personally wait for 08 if you can wait another year.

If you're going to mod the **** outta it just get one now. I think the non revup engines have a little more aftermarket products than the revup. Since the new HR is coming out i dont know if companies are going to continue their R&D for the RevUp since it was only out for a year(I'm prolly wrong tho) . Just my .02

I think the '07 Z with the VQ35HR would be a better buy, especially if you plan on doing a lot of N/A mods. For one thing, the new HR engine is tuned to perform well at high RPM, so any breathing mods would benefit more.

In stock form, it comes with equal-length headers, dual intakes, dual exhausts, 7.5k rpm redline. To add those mods to the current VQ would cost at least a couple of thousand bucks, and the total HP gain I don't think would be any better than what the new HR engine will put out, not mentioning voiding the warrantee (if that matters). With that money saved, you can buy a lightweight flywheel/carbon clutch for the new HR and gain further performance though drivetrain efficiency.

Based on specs from Nissan, I think the new VQ35HR will be better than the 300hp VQ when it comes to mods in the same way the 300hp VQ is when compared to the 287hp engine. If you're planning on doing FI, though, the biggest negative would be the higher compression ratio, previously mentioned.

I too was wondering if i should wait for the 07's or go for the 06 but like previously mentioned, the 07's will have a higher compression engine which wouldnt be as good for FI right? I plan to go FI with whichever year i get after the warranty runs out and i'm banking on it being Twin Turbo. What would be the dis-advantages of going TT on a higher compression engine like the 07's. Will it have alot of difference or is it not a whole lot of difference in compression that it wont make -that- much of a difference.

I do plan to build the motor from the ground up to be able to withstand the HP i plan to achieve with FI (hoping around 500 or so?) but im just wondering would the new engines be better or worse for FI in the grand scheme of things (not just looking at compression alone).

Thanks for the responses. Most likely I will be waiting for the 07 model in January and have at least 35 k for the track edition. The VQ35HR seems very promising in ther performance dpto. I just hope is the same body structure as the current year so I can purchase JP Vizage body kit, and then wait for the performance mods to be available later on.

If you want to drive as stock form, then I would wait for '07. or if you can't
wait to mod, then buy a leftover '06s. If you buy 06 now, then you already
have plenty of aftermarket options lined up for modification. People are still figuring out the current VQ35DE is capable of - not to mention the Rev-up motors..
If you are going to go NA then VQ35HR would be better choice but you
still have to wait awhile for aftermarket companies to tap into the new engine.. Now, the FI is a whole new ball game. Yes, HR engine has a higher
compression rate but you can always lower it down with built engine..
but same theory goes to current VQs-you can build the current VQ motors
MUCH stronger than what HR will have. Now, some dumb people will trade their '06s with '07's when they come out just like when '06 came out last year.. and then call it, 'HR Revolution!!!!' thing..
Again, nobody knows what's the real deal for '07 Zs.. Until January, we will
have our fingers crossed.

By 2020, I should have graduated from the Z, and retired in my garage. Seriously, wait, the best is yet to come. Patience is virtue.

I would wait for the 2008. It should deliver by September of next year. People are already getting on the waiting list. New engine, design, suspension. Probably 325bhp with the new VQ engine?

^Nothing offical. All rumors and speculation.

The new VQHR is going to get around 315hp with the new SAE standards IIRC, which would put it around 330hp with the standards our current Z's are measured by I believe.

i heard it was going to be 315hp as well...but i doubt its 330hp under the old system...I would say 320hp on the old system

if you look at the current G35, its rated at 293 (old was 298)...thats only a 5hp difference...furthermore, if you look at acura's RSX-S, (or any other car for that matter) you will see that it's not even a 10hp difference between the old and new...i bet a more realistic # to look at is 5-8whp difference...between the old and new
