(My April auto issue of Consumer Reports is loaned out) From memory, ALL Mercedes models have been pegged w/worse than average reliability so your findings aren't surprising.

To Quijano187, I've seen some on the side of the road, but that's not a fair comparison anyhow. Mercedes has a TINY marketshare in the US. For example, last year (see http://asia.news.yahoo.com/060105/ap/d8eu65l00.html), Mercedes sold 224,421 vehicles in the US in all of 2005. GM does more than that in a month and sold 4,416,042 that year. Nissan did 1,076,670.

In August 06, Mercedes sold 20,602 vehicles in the US. In comparison, the best selling vehicle in the US was (as usual) the Ford F-series pickup which racked up 76,804 sales. The best selling car in the US (as usual) was the Toyota Camry which got 42,227 sales.

our car has been rated the best coupe for dependability by edmunds. the other nissans might be bad but our 350s are doing really well.

My gf has a land rover, guess where it is right now? yup in the shop. I think the Infiniti does better because there is no pick up truck in the lineup. Nissan has had thier hands full in the service department with the titan, but since it came out only a few years ago with an entire new platform it should be expected.

You forget that Infinity is the higher end of the Nissan line. By splitting out Infinity from Nissan it is almost as if they are looking at different models versus different brands. Same with Lexus and Toyota. Same exact brands, but they are seperating out their models that they spend a little more time with to make sure are right from the base line corollas and sentras.

So just because Nissan rates a little lower doesn't mean all their vehicles have lower reliability. They could have one model that is having serious reliabilty issues that is bringing down their entire line. You need to compare actual models instead of brands to get a better idea.

Hah, i happen to drive a 1988 saab 900 turbo spg and you know what, saabs are damn tough and reliable. This thing has about 250,000 miles and im still driving the hell out of it. I could only expect the newer ones are even better and more reliable.

Sorry, figured i'd interject since i noticed saab was the second best on the first graph.

2000 Maxima has 231,000 miles and running perfectly. My 85 300zx turbo had 205,000 miles on it when an a**hole hit me in a parking lot and totaled it. My brothers 82 280zx took 250,000+ miles when it was finally too rusted and too leaky inside to drive. Reliable enough for me.

i think that infiniti drivers probably maintain there cars better on average than nissan drivers and probably don't beat on them as much especially when you look at the G owner vs. Z owner

i like Saab. They know exactly where to locate an ignition key. Now Saab needs to figure out where to put a starter button.

OMFG lol I have owned 4 Nissans, all of my
cars have been nissan and all have been
great cars, no probs except cv boot issues
with my 94 Sentra SE R but my 99 Maxima and
2 Z's have been perfect thus far. My maxima I drove
untill 90,000 miles w/o a tune up just to see if it held up
and hell it did!

I use to be a Toyota owner until after I owned a 2000 Celica. That damn thing was in the shop more than in my possession! Dealing with Toyota warranty issues were a nightmare!

That little dependability study don't mean squat because it's most likely based on new car buyers who sent in their survey four weeks after they bought the car.

should have gotten something else! do you really want a Buick? and as far as Ford being above the standard that is impossible or because rednecks buy them and do the work themselves instead of taking it to the dealer for service hence it goes unreported! $30-$40,000 for a Z, the owners are smart enough to have it serviced by the dealer is all this graph shows me IMHO.

Funny how Infinite is high up there and Nissan is down the chart. Did somebody pull this data out of his dream?

nissan has 6 different engine packages to infiniti's 3. there are bound to be more problems in the nissan lineup.
