Ford and GM are ranked higher.
Anyone know why infiniti is ranked 3rd while Nissan is below average? I though nissan and infiniti were the same?

It's interesting that the more reliable cars are in the luxury/appliance category, with the exception of BMW. Porsche and MB fall into the below average. Maybe the owners of some of the "more reliable cars" are blissfully unaware of faults.
How is a Buick more reliable than a Chevy-they are just rebadged Chevrolets?
How is a Mercury more reliable as a rebadged Ford?
Why the difference between Nissan and Infiniti, when we know some of the cars share most critical components?
The surveys are just that,YMMV. Marketing no doubt has a lot to do with how people perceive their cars, along with the treatment they get at the dealerships.
I would much rather own a dynamic performing and looking car than a totally reliable car that performed and looked like the POS it was from an engineering standpoint. Minor faults can be fixed, but the design is there for the duration.

At least there was study improvement from 2004 forward.
I've always wondered why Buicks were consistently high on the list. Maybe the older crowd that typically buys Buicks drive them easier than the typical Chevy/Pontiac buyer?

That list doesn't show who is driving those cars. it is kind of Vague if you ask me. it's based on statistics. just because statistically your chances of being struck by lightning are low, doesn't mean you should walk around in thunderstorms. just my 2cents

JD power survey is based on people who took the time to return the survey. If you look at the top five vehicles on the list, what do you see.....what kind of people are the most likely to own those types of vehicles, you tell me.
Lexus is soooooooover rated IMO.
I have to say that I have been quite surprised at the quality of my Z (04 1/2). I have had a dozen new cars, from Porche's to MB's to Acura and this is the first car I have had that has not needed to go back to the dealer for anything. I have almost 13k miles on it!!!

please don't forget the fact that the auto industry can produce a car that is both fun to drive and reliable at the same time. For instance, the handsome looking Z is kinda fun to drive, reasonably reliable and pretty stingy on gas for a performance vehicle. Also don't forget it is relatively cheap to own and maintain for a 300hp car.
