The 350Z out performed the other cars selected in the "under 30K" class. The track they tested at was VIR. The lap time rankings were as follows:

1. 350Z
2. Mitsubishi Evo MR
3. Mazda RX-8
4. Chevy Cobalt SS
5. Ford Mustang GT (yep, the Cobalt beat it)
6. VW GTI
7. Honda Civic Si
8. Mazda MX-5

 

And the times:

1) 350Z Track - 3:12.5, 124.3, 0.9
2) Evo MR - 3:13.5, 124, 0.94
3) RX-8 - 3:19.0, 116.4, 0.86
4) Cobalt SS - 3:20.6, 117.1, 0.85
5) Mustang GT - 3:20.9, 119.3, 0.88
6) GTI - 3:25.1, 112.0, 0.82
7) Civic Si - 3:26.5, 111.6, 0.80
8) MX-5 - 3:29.3, 108.6, 0.83

I think i saw ( with squinting eyes) that the shelby GT 500 got a 3:11 lap time...which means it only beat the Z by a second?! Thats insane...for the Z

The recent data on the mustang, specifically the Shelby GT 500 has not been impressive to say the least. I guess if you only want a stock dyno queen without real world performance to back it up it does not matter.

 

i knew this was going to be a dissapointing car when i first saw the mammoth curb weight that the beast had months ago...3800 or 3900lbs? I dont think you can put enough HP in a car that weighs that much and expect great things out of it.

It sure is a pretty car though

 

Nice to see the Z beating everything in its class. I wish they would have included some other cars though like the m3,s2k, etc. I would like to see how the Z would do compared to them. Not bad though, some of the corner entry/exit speeds for the Z were better than the m6, and really close to the cayman S. Now I have to wait to get my issue in the mail, and shove it everyones face who thinks the Z is a pig when it comes to handling!!!

 

Too bad the S2000 couldn't make it anywhere ont he list of cars tested, would have been nice to see where it ranked.

I am so glad that a Z without ****ty RE040s was tested it really shows how bad those tires are. I always hated reading comparos with a Z because I always felt it was hampered by poor tires.
