Default Which will win, please...

My girlfriends dad has a volvo s60 R and claims he can beat my 06' enthusiast, is there any truth to this? I drove his car and like all volvos/turbos the turbo doesnt spool up until about 1800rpms. Any input would be appreciated!

no, it will not beat you. The 350z and the S60R are just about as quick on a cold day, but the S60R has been known to slow down tremendiously when the temperature goes up. 0-60 is usually around 5.4-5.8 depends on where you read it, but in the sun it can actually go up to 6.4, i kid you not. So go for it, if he wants to race i suggest making sure you dont have any heavy items in your car, then show him what your taillights look like.

what the hell is wrong with the enthusiast model? It's the best bang for the buck Z out there...and dont count the base model is too plain and doesnt have some essential elements like the enthusiast does

why add that? Well the prevailing thought is if you're 20 and have a Z then mommy and daddy bought it. And yes its a volvo...which is why i'm determined not to let that man beat me, he doesn't know a damn thing about cars except his is the fastest on the road. Gotta have a little pride in the Z

You should have no problem beating the Vulva with your Z.

I just traded my Z for an R and one of the previous post is right about temperature effecting the R significantly. Stock for stock they are about the same in moderate temperature from around 80-100 degrees F. Above a 100 degrees F the heat can really slow the R down to around 6 seconds unless it has other cooling mods such as an Aquamist. When the temp is below 80 degrees F it feels like the engine is underrated and performing better. The R is at full torque between 1950-5250 RPMs but will run out of steam quickly between 6000-redline. If he has the MT lets hope he doesn't know that and tries a redline shift. If it's an AT in full auto-mode the computer will keep it at max torque and hp the whole time. Your saving grace vs the AT is that Volvo put a torque reducer on the first two gears supposedly to protect the rest of the drivetrain during boosted torque multiplicaton. So if you want a fair race, race when the temp is 80+. If you want to rape him, race him on a very hot day. On cooler days be wary, that big intake and those dual intercoolers seem to pull power out of nowhere. Be careful if he has a modded ECU which is a popular mod with the R because it's a cheap mod and will increase HP and torque to the mid to high 300s easily. (<$1k). A chip modded R can walk an M3 repeatedly. If it's an AT, chances are they modded the ECU to also remove the torque reducer. With a few other cheap mods you are looking at a 4.5s car. On the track, unless you are a very good driver and there are a lot of slow, tight twisties the R will handle better than the Z. The computer controlled handling on the R can turn almost anybody into a track star.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

The At Speed Motorsports Volvo S60R recently dominated the World Challenge GT Race at Mosport. The S60R lapped every car but the second place finisher. They beat all the Porsches, Vipers, Cadillacs and Corvettes in the field. These are usually very strong contenders in the GT category.
