According to a reliable source, the HR can be expected to last approximately 175,000 if oil is changed every 78 days or 172,349 miles if you change oil every 81.3 days.

This is an improvement over the DE's rate of 174,111 & 170,251 miles, respectively.

Now using a non-paper filter, one can hope to extend this period by at least .09555%, depending on humidity inside the bottom of the radiator cap, of course.

What did you expect with a question like that? No one knows how long an engine will last there are too many factors, its not like its an exact science.

Think about it this way, the VQ engine has been around for 14 years in the United States since the 1992 Nissan Maxima. The engine has been used in a good amount of Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. As long as you take care of the engine, you shouldn't have any problems. In my opinion, I would rather take the VQ engine than a newer one since most problems have been already diagnosed and they have been proven to be reliable.

Try the 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody (VQ30)...

When we traded ours in 9 years and 96000+ miles later, it was still going strong and I actually expected it to last for 300K miles. If we hadn't been starting our family, I'd probably still have it. After 9 years, with a little care, the truck looked almost new, and actually didn't last on the dealer's lot for even 24 hours.

I miss my old truck.

+1 on the vq engine being out for a while. Older maxima engines has been using the vq30de engine for a long time and with good maintenance, many have passed the 200k and are still going strong. I have 100K on my max and it feels as strong as it has ever been. With that in mind, I don't think the new vq35 will have a problem hitting that mark as well with regular maintenance.

I don't know how great Ward is, but the VQ engine has been on the 10 best engines list since. 95 - current.

Car manufactures primary reason for building a motor is a modular platform that can be used in mutiple vehicles. This allows for cheaper production. Nissan uses the VQ basis for many cars, including infiniti. Quanity production makes cheaper parts.
