Dashboard rattle free!! try it out...
...well, after reading some of your comments, I decided not to go to the dealership and do this myself. This may seem "ghetto" fix for you guys
, but let me tell you my Z is now "rattle free" and it feels as the day I drove off the dealership when new.
I had a cheap floor mat left over for my Altima (picture below) bought at Autozone. I used a knife to cut 3 pieces, about 6 inches long and 3 in. wide. I did fold them and placed them in beetween windshield and dashboard (pics below).......let me tell you....it works!!

I agree - the old mat wedged in there looks a bit unfinished. Maybe with a stink tree on the mirror........
I've "cured" many of these noises with a little Velcro (the "soft" side). If you're careful when trimming and placing it, it can look great. I've used it as weatherstripping on alloy bodies (e.g. my '58 Lotus 7) and to support plastic panels (e.g. pillar trim and dash on Mini Cooper S).
Get the "industrial" stuff at Home Depot etc. It sticks well and holds up for years.

Well I did the same thing EXCEPT I used rubber vacuum hose and did the entire length of the dash . . . You cant tell there is anything there and it looks factory.
I cannot live with the rattles. Nothing pisses me off more than rattles. You should have seen me on a recent 500 mile trip. While the girlfriend was driving I crawled all around the cabin searching for the sources of my rattles. I fixed 2.
One required the removing of the temp sensor in the top of the passenger side dash. Its that little round plug looking thing. It has always given me problems. POS.

I hear more rattles in the rear than in front if any. So I will reject this mod. lol. but if I were to approach it I'd use cut it more cleanly and insert it so it would be cleaner. nasty to look at that everyday.
