If you drive under control, there is nothing to worry about.
You are very right about that... I Do all the DO's And DON't's when it comes to driving. In fact all my the passengers in my car always complain that I drive too safely that it makes them madd? I don't know what's so wrong about driving safely but I guess it just shows how cautious I am when driving.

The New Beetle convertibles have it as well. The rear headrests pop up.

"The all-new roll bar system uses a sensor-based system to anticipate a rollover situation and deploy Automatic Rollover Supports. Anticipating a rollover, the system pops the spring-loaded headrests up 10.4 inches and locks them into place, forming supports that are strong enough for the vehicle's weight and protecting front and rear passengers in combination with a reinforced windshield frame. The automatic system eliminates the need for a permanent roll bar like that in the outgoing Cabriolet, eliminating the associated design obstacles and allowing better aerodynamics. "

You're right...
My old man's new CLK has these blocks behind the rear-seat head-rest that is submerged. You can pull them up.

I'll see if I can find a pic of it.
