Default which is the better deal? 04 vs. 06

ok, just stopped by nissan....here's what they have:

2004 redline touring....7400 miles, looks to be in very good shape...asking 26....I told him I MIGHT be intersted at 22, and he didnt bat an eye...

2006 demo...silver alloy..500 miles....27K (not sure what model, was in kind of a rush)...cloth seats

both are 6 m/t.....

obviously, at 26/27....the 06 is the better deal........

so, I guess my real question is.......what price makes the 04 a smokin' deal..... 20-21????

thanks in advance....

yeah if you get book on the redline, i would go with that. the 06 has the nice revup motor in it so that is worth getting into. 6spd gets the revup while the AT gets the original z motor

both of these are 6 sp's....

im concerned about the tire feathering (didnt think to look if it had kneepads)....

the 06 is a BASE model..just called and found that out...

cosmetically the are both good......the redline has a few scratches on it....nothing that made me look twice..however, I was VERY surprised to see only 7500 miles......

04 is too expensive and dont get a base. Go looking elsewhere, shop around, you'll find much better deals.

I've tested both the 04 and 06 when I got mine and the 06 was more responsive to throttle inputs than the 04. Especially at higher rpms because of the rev up motor.

Why not a base? It has pros and cons, just like everything else in life. And he has not made details about the use it will have.

details:

i have an 02 xterra SC with m/t.....Im tired of commuting in it....to the tune of about 90 miles/day...however, I will be keeping it to tow jetski's.....

the Z will become my primary driver, however the X is still in excellent shape and will be used when the weather looks crappy.....

tracking? maybe....not often though....

been looking at Z's and STi's (07 lim) but have gotten used to no car payment so want something I can either stroke a check for, or make small payments on.....

mods: intake and exhaust mainy....audio of course

04: NEEDS wheels and tires fairly soon....

06: i like the wheels, so woudl change them eventually........

I do want leather seats, which is a + on the 04..but not a deal breaker on the 06.....

the 06 is a base, and I wanted VDC for those times when you want VDC

06 is a silver alloy, not my fav........redline = pretty rare from what Ive seen.....and I have to admit, it'd be pretty cool to have a redline Z + molten lava X in the garage.......

BUT, i am fairly flexible on color and options....but it has to be 6sp and CLEAN

With 7400 miles, and assuming both clean Carfax & maintence check, I'd go 04Touring for around $24,000 OTD.

They are both Z's, so you really can't go wrong. Truthfully, I myself was looking at getting a used (04-05) Touring, mainly for the leather (though there are a couple extra things I feel make the Touring worth it). Or I was looking at buying an 06 Enthusiast; in this case, I was primarily interested in the LSD (though the aluminum pedals, cruise, and steering mounted radio controls were all pluses).

However, after having test driven the Base (it was the easiest for them to get off the lot with a 6MT), I fell in love. Call me a purist, but I took an extended test-drive, and after finding out the 06 Base came with HID (very important for me), listening to a pretty good 6 speaker stereo, and being impressed with the interior, I just decided to buy the Base. Cost me $26,500, including the $600 delivery charge.

I would say you owe it to yourself to check both out, and if still not satisfied, then shop another dealer. You might even be able to wait another three-four weeks (assuming dealers still have some), and get a steal on an 06, since the 07's will be right around the corner.

the 04 probably weighs 150 lbs less than the 06 and probalby is a nicer trim level than the base

i payed 24,500 for my 04 touring with 15,000 miles, which i think was just over what the blue book was for dealer trade in price. it was in perfect condition.

I would say that you won't be able to get that good of a deal on the '04. If they have it listed at $26k they are probably looking to sell it for around $24-25k at worst. If he didn't bat an eye when you said your price he would have started writing your deal up if he wanted to sell it. I found that these cars don't need to be discounted much because someone is going to buy them.

I got a quote on a new one at $400 over invoice on the base. It was I think 27,100 and 29,000 out the door. $27k for a slightly used one doesn't sound like that good of a deal.

If you get the used your interest rate will be about 100 to 150 points higher than if you went new. Consider that.

I would go with the touring, and also the fact that - as another member mentioned, its a lighter car, but that's not the big deal. I'm not too sure how well it matters, but wouldn't the touring hold it's value better then a base model, up to the point where at some point (considering mileage and condition), the '06 base and the '04 fully loaded touring will be at the same price? I'm not too sure about this, but options could keep the value up, no?

Me personally, I bought my '03 Z touring (fully loaded without navi) in March '06, with 8,000 miles on the odometer and 18" rims, 6spd, for $22,000 otd from some dealer that didnt realize the value of the car, and shrugged it off as some "cheap Nissan". The majority of cars in his lot were newer model M5's, and the new M3's. I lucked out .
