Does that color cost extra?? If it does, then I guess its an ok price, but you can do better. I got my 06 enthusiast with pretty much all the options available (side air bags, etc, etc,) for $27,400, plus TTL, this was Dec. 5th 2005 from performance nissan. You should be able to get a better deal though.

In the last 10 years, I have bought 2 Nissan trucks, 3 Camrys, and my Z over the phone or through the internet. The last Camry, and my Z, they delivered to the house so I didn't even have to go to the dealership to settle up and take delivery.

I find the classic "competition" between buyer and seller insulting and a needless waste of time (for BOTH parties). I will NOT go to a dealership to negotiate a car purchase.

yeah, i've heard a lot of people say you can't buy a car over the phone. not true at all. very often you can get as good a deal or better on the phone or internet.

anyway, regarding the original post, i would definitely say it's worth it to pay a little more to a dealer you trust and have a relationship with. it'll pay off if you have it serviced there. big time.

With respect, no contract is signed - there is no sale.

Karma buddy I have seen it a hundred times you search for the deal someone will always work for free and then when you have an issue and you have no one to turn to you complain on a forum that the dealership is a bunch of a$$holes.

I payed 27K OTD (after taxes and everything) for my 06 base with side/curtain airbags, floor mats, kick plates, cargo convenience package and splashgaurds.

I had the easiest time ever when I went to the dealership. I said I want an 06' 350z with side/curtain airbags. I didn't really have to buy right then so when they found the car I said I wanted 19K for trade in on my wrx (1k over blue book) and 27K for the car (which was MSRP). They went in back for a few minutes they came back in a few minutes and said ok. Quickest dealer time ever.

So you tell the dealership to fax the confirmation, you sigh i,t fax it back, and keep a copy for yourslf. Now you have a signed contract.

Actually, there is no "sale" until the money is exchanged for the merchandise. But a binding agreement can certainly be reached without the buyer and seller having to meet face to face.

In each of my aforementioned transactions, the "deal" was confirmed either by fax, or email, and funds given on delivery, either at the dealership, or when delivered to my home. Auto purchases absolutely do NOT have to be conducted "face-to-face".

I'm a Realtor and a builder. We do contracts by email and fax every day. In the last 2 years I've built and sold custom homes here in North Carolina to 3 different buyers in California, all done by email and fax. The buyers never came to the state of North Carolina until the closing. And their presence isn't even required at the closing. One of buyer bought a second home here this spring, and the closing was all done by fax, except the final closing documents, which were FedEx-ed.

How many hundreds of autos are bought and sold through Ebay? My son recently flew to Atlanta and picked up a 325 BMW convertible he bought on Ebay for his wife. The only part of the transaction that was face to face was exchanging a certified check for the title and keys. The "deal" had been made in cyberspace and by email and phone 10 days earlier.

You are correct that you need a written confirmation to make the agreement binding, but that can easily be done by fax or email.

good point, but contracts can be faxed. it's a good way to avoid the haggling, but i'd never do it on anything other than a car that is being ordered...wouldn't want to risk it on a car that's been test driven and sat on a lot for a while. i've never actually done this, but my dad has on his past couple trucks.

personally, i walked into my service guy, who handled most of the major maintenance on the Altima i had, and asked him which salesman i should ask for. i never expected his reponse. he said they never do that anymore after being burned a few times by crappy salesman who screwed over the buyer. so now the service guys walk their customers inside and introduce them to the manager, who quotes a solid price for the car...generally 100-500 over invoice, no matter which salesman you talk to. so i lucked out by working directly with the fleet manager and the finance mgr and walked out with an 06 Roadster Touring 6MT for 33,300.

so that's definitely my recommendation if you have a nissan and an existing relationship with your service tech.

and anyone's in the market and near the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, definitely check out Courtesy Nissan

Yeah, IF color is a bit more expensive. MB was my next choice, but IF seems to stand out cuz its a bit more rare.
I really would like to go cheaper, but I am leaning on the fact that the guy has really given me excellent service. That might pay for itself when I take it in for service, as someone else mentioned. If Im in the ballpark of everyone else, the I suppose its not worth quibbling about. I sure wouldnt mind if he threw a few extra things at me though. Mats, kickplate, whatever.

Never. Never. Never ask for a quote. It shows that you have not studied the numbers, and puts you at a disadvantage.

What to do: Wait until you find the 350Z that you want. Your dream car. Sit face-to-face with the dealer. Make your best offer.

I disagree. I did my shopping over the phone. I visited a few dealers and got s ome quotes. Then I called other dealers and asked them whats the best price they could give me. I basicly went w/ the one who gave me the best offer and beat out the others.

26,900 for a base is about right. I got my silverstone 06 base for 26,830 a few days age.

Add $960 to the Invoice and offer him that!

Invoice for a Base is: $25860
Invoice for a Enthusiast is: $27144

Offer him $300 over Invoice!
