Plus another 450 or so for the IF paint? so...27894 for the enthusiast. Maybe if I ask for 28000 out the door, that would be a nice round number he'd consider. This is the part I hate. If I hadnt been talking to this guy for an entire year, I might be more willing to haggle, but he has made it very personal. However, when we first start talking, he told me the base would be around 25k. I somewhat feel like he went up a bit on me.

OMG guys. Im pretty freaking excited right now. He emailed me back and it looks as though I can get a Magnetic Black 6sp 06 Enthusiast for... drum roll please: $28,628. Thats out the door!!!! Plus hes talking about throwing in the kickplate, mats and trunk liner at that price. Holy ****, I emailed him back to make sure that was the price and if he says yes.. Im gonna have him start the paperwork.
Before you guys say anything about the color, MB was my original choice, but I kinda gained an appreciation for the IF after looking at it for a while. Then I started to want it because its not as common a color. He told me he cant seem to locate a manual IF enthusiast. So I will be more than happy with a MB. OMG OMG OMG I hope hes serious.

Are you buying a car sight unseen?
What is the MSRP?
What is your offer?

It looks as though I misunderstood the price he gave me. /sigh I was just hoping I could get an enthusiast OTD for around 28k but its looking less and less likely. Id even go 29k.

According to him, the state sales tax for Iowa is 5%, and $250 would cover Title and Licensing. So basically, since he quoted me at 26900 for a base, Im going that route. No optional upgrades whatsoever. Maybe Im setting my expectations too high. It just seems you cant get OTD on an enthusiast for less than 30k, at least not from this guy, right now. Im going to check ebay motors, maybe I can find a dealership there willing to give me an OTD price closer to what I want. I will not compromise on color, either IF or MB, but nothing else. I will NOT compromise on options and even package.
The price of this vehicle directly affects when I can come home from afghanistan for good. So the cheaper I get it, sooner I get to give the bird to this shi thole country.

"It just seems you cant get OTD on an enthusiast for less than 30k, at least not from this guy, right now." .... I call BS!! I purchase my '05 Ultra Yellow 6mt Enthusiast for $28,800 OTD in October of '05. You are buying an '06 in October '06 which is the 2007 model year, so technically the car is last year's model. I would suggest you talk to him again. Tell him you appreciate the time and effort he has given you, but you will need an incentive to buy this car otherwise you will just wait for the 2007's, remember you said you will not get to drive the car for awhile after the purchase therefore in reality there is no pressure on you to buy; YOU CAN WAIT. Given your situation (ie military etc) you need to get a price that's manageable for you. Tell him you want the car for the price you have in mind ...$29K and that if he can't do that then you want to get some NIsmo upgrades thrown in ( ie shifter, sways & intake, or exhaust). You can also promise to recommend him to other potential buyers!! You don't have to come off as pushy or arrogant, just appeal to the friendship HE has cultivated with you. And play the US military card!!! Good luck.

My new '06 Enthusiast (with $490 in options) was OTD at $28,968 June '06. And that was a VERY good price.

thanks guys.. you are all awesome. I appreciate all the advice. This is another reason why I want to be a true member of this car community, because of all the cool people. I spoke with another salesman (Kirk at Mossy) and he said he could possibly do an enthusiast for around 30k otd with the IF paint, or a MB Base otd for 28125. More than I wanted to pay for either. /sigh
