Default ? Why do people dyno stock Z's

I always wonder why people dyno there stock 350Z and post them on the forums. Maybe I am crazy but isnt a dyno really meant to measure performance gains, and act as atunning aid. We all know what stock or bolt on 350Z's will do on a dyno. That nunmber tends to be anywhere between 230-260. So therefore we all know that if you add an exhaust, intake etc you might gain a couple horspeower. Certainly nothing you would notice in every day driving minus the cool sound of an exhaust. Anyway my point is do some people acutally think they are going to add on some bolt on mods and magically have a dyno that blows everyone away? cause honestly who cares what a stock 350Z dyno's at. Stock Z's are nice and I have taken my Z completly back to stock including the airbox and it drives fine for me. But i could care less if it now dyno's at 225-235 whats the big deal . I say send me the money all these people spend on the dyno and i will pick out of a hat a number and save you the trouble. Just to clarify i am not talkin about people who have done na builds or crazy off the wall stuff since that needs to be tuned etc so i can see the need. I mnot trying to get flamed I am just trying to understand.

I think most people that post stock dyno's are people that are posting it as their baseline because they plan to mod and want to have a number to start from so they know how much HP and torque they've added.

Exactly. No two cars leave the factory with 100% identical numbers and a dyno is a good way to measure a starting point before adding any performance mods, NA or FI.

For a baseline to compare future mods to, if you cant figure that out, why do people like you post dumb $hit that is a waste of bandwith?

I think its to get a baseline number before they put on mods.

I thought I'd post this in case you didnt read the last few exact same responses.

base line or base·line (bsln)
n.
1.
a. A line serving as a basis, as for measurement, calculation, or location.
b. A measurement, calculation, or location used as a basis for comparison.

i know there is no such thing as stupid questions, but wow..

Agreed. To anyone who plans on modding their Z for more HP a baseline is a must. I did not get one and now I wish I had. All Z's are not created equal, and while most will have similar baselines, there are some slugs and dyno queens out there.

how can you measure performance gains when you don't have a solid number of a baseline dyno for reference to tell you how much you actually gained from whatever mod you do??
