Default Super noob question but need help

First question when i start the car as in foot on clutch key in and turn. Should i just let go of the clutch right away or hold it down for a few secs?

Second question what do you recommend when upshifting/downshifting fully depress the clutch or just enough to get the gear in place?

I know my questions sound dumb but thanks for the help.

Foot in clutch when starting, and when the rev goes up and settles down, then let go, unless you're in gear, then don't. Only in neutral let go.

I usually depress enough to get out of gear.

I agree. The more you drive and shift, you will soon "feel" where the clutch is just right for you. There's no real need to push it to the floor.

as long as the car is in neutral it doesnt matter...

the less you are compressing the clutch the better IMHO... so I would release it sooner... i guess you can say you wont be wearing your release bearing excessively either.. ehhe...

you only have to press in the clutch to hit the trigger... you can close the circuit and not even have to press the clutch if you wanted to... its a "Safety" feature...

^ Are you serious? With my CD -008 tranny, the clutch pedal is not as forgiving. Engagement is fine, but half of the time I grind if I go by your method. Heck, I'll grind once in awhile even with the clutch down to the floor since it's a habit from driving this car. With other cars, I can get away easily without grinding. It's funny... I never grind driving any car other than mine. I do notice the pedal effort is more difficult from 1" off the floor.

Since your are apparently new to a manual transmission, fully disengage the clutch when shifting. Other techniques will come naturally with practice.

This is off topic, but why isn't Davidv a moderator yet? I think he should be. Hey dav, when you become a mod, im going to need some moderator protections Ok back on topic.

Yup, release the clutch slowly after starting if in neutral and depress clutch fully when shifting. I notice that after starting, if I release the clutch too abruptly, there is this "thuh" sound, which doesnt sound good for the tranny.

LOL. Because I have no tolerance for dumb. Besides moderators have responsibilities. I just want to share, learn and have fun.

Taught my son to drive MT on Brick; no harm to his psyche or Z tranny/clutch.

I can drive the z pretty well now but i was just wondering what you guys prefer in terms of clutch press. I can get a smoother shift if i press only partial way down instead of all the way down.
