hey man i know what ya mean. im 16 and had to learn on my g35. on top of that, the guy i bought it from put a racing clutch of some kind in it and its heavier than a b*tch. anyways, good luck and just keep practicing

Its apparent you learned it....80 in a 35...geez...

 

Since we are all getting along so well today I've got a couple of observations for 'ya.

Is it brand new? If so, after a few weeks the whole drivetrain will break in and become more responsive. What I noticed was that the first two weeks I owned my brand new Z I had to give it gas to go up my driveway where my previous car would go up in first gear all by itself. After a few weeks the Z did the same. I can put it in gear as I go slow over the curb and by the time I get 3/4 of the way up the drive (which I've never had to get back on the gas since the curb) I'm on the brakes becuase it is going too fast into the garage. First two weeks I had to keep the gas on all the way up the drive so it wouldn't bog or stall.

I had driven stick for 15 years and stalled it twice the first week becuase it just felt different and now it makes sense based on the above ovbservation.

Learn quick where the engagement point is and after it is broken in do take note of how to start it on level ground without the gas pedal and I can second that it's got so much torque that if you think you stalled it, just tap the gas and usually it will come back to life.

No matter how smooth you get, notice later even if you cannot feel the jerk into the next gear the tach. still will bounce just visibly becuase it is a hard car to drive smooth.

 

Make the Z your DD and drive during rush hour. That's how I learned. Eventually, you will get better as you go. Stay calm and stay clear of pressure because that will cause you to stall. It's ok to stay on the clutch...at a minimal rate. Good luck with the ticket btw.

Practice, practice, practice! Becareful if you get snow, 300TQ is not easy to lay down on wet pavement.

Its funny cuz it snowed here in NJ and I went to drive the A4 and the clutch is so LIGHT on that thing compared to the Z. It was TOO easy.

 

yea, i drove manual for a little bit before i got my Z. i had a bit of trouble with it at first. hard to shift smoothly. stalled a few times. hehe. but you get used it, before you know it....it'll be second nature. =) good luke and enjoy! be safe!!!

 

my parents got me my 350z for my 16th bday too, but wouldnt let me drive it alone on the street till pops knew i knew how to drive stick withoguht him worrying... my dad took me to a huge parking lot showed me the basics and told me here u go now u learn by practacing, he was on the other side of the parking lot on the grass area where him and his friends allways play bocci ball. he was there with them all day and all day long i was getting used to the z... i wasted like half a tank of gas on the parking lot that day, at the end i was a lot better so i told him i want to drive back he said no but then i convinced him to.. i thoguht iwas going to be as easy but its more complicated when theres other cars around you... just take it to a parking lot and learn like i did, do what a few guys said try taking off with just using the clutch that helpd me get the feeling where it kicks in... then when i got home my dad parked the car in the drive way( curb and uphill) because i couldnt make it up a hill yet..he went inside and i would let the car slide halfway down the drive way and i would pull the E-Brake as i was about to go forward till i felt the car move a little bit then i would release..did that a bunch of times then started goin up hill on the driveway withoguht the e-brake.. just takes a ton of practice till u get how to drive it...now i got 30k miles on my car and its just about time for a new clutch....when you know how to drive it and you burn your clutch because of stupid reasons your gonna wanna cry...hope that helps you
