Default Car and Driver's Lighting Lap shootout: Z winner of LL1 class!

I didn't see a post about this.

Lot of reviews lately with the Z ftw! So here is C&D's test.

(I linked it to the page about the Z specifically)

Amazingly enough, that performance made the Cobalt SS 0.3 second quicker than the 300-hp Ford Mustang GT. The Mustang was actually a couple mph quicker than the Cobalt on the straightaways, but the Ford suffered from weak brakes and a floppy chassis. After only two laps, the brakes started to give ground and the soft suspension allowed the car to move around too much to go quickly through the high-speed esses of Sector Two. The Cobalt averaged 4.7 mph faster through that part of the track. On the plus side, cornering grip and balance were decent. With more suspension control, the Mustang would have taken better advantage of these attributes.

Good article. It's always nice to see the Z finish first.

i wish they had somehow compared the track model to the s2000. that would have been a good comparo for VIR. they both would have to have been in the >30k section though

Hehehehe, for many years I drove home from work through a town in Northern Virginia called Clifton. Clifton is all windy one lane roads w/ a lot of twisties. I was driving a vw jetta w/ 150HP and I recall a mustang trying to keep up w/ me through the corners, it was laughable, he was trying so hard but he just couldn't do it. He almost ate it on one curve, I was at the edge of my car's handling capability.
