Looking for service manual info, I find that NISSAN refers to the 06' Z as an 06.5'. Intersting.

Well, there's an 04 and a 04.5 so it shouldn't be a surprise that there's a revision.

Must be the oil-burining model...

Does it say anything about adding 4 qts every 1500 miles? I may need to pick up the new version...

Nissan made a "revision" to the Z in the middle of the model year. Hence, some of us have a 2004½ rather than a 2004. Apparently some significant change was made to the Z necessating a new factory service manual to distinguish the 2006 from the 2006½.

Now I'm curious, what distinguishes the 6.5 from the 6, and when (what month) did this change occur?

I was curious too so I checked the Nissan Tech-info site and I don't see any reference to a 2006.5 manual. The only things listed there are these:

Unfortunately, there's nothing obvious in the owners manual that indicates what might be different.

At least the FSM will have details about VIN numbers that are 06 vs 06.5 as well as production dates.

I believe it's new revised owners manual that added more extra info on top of previous manual version.

An updated Owners Manual wouldn't justify calling it a 2006.5 vs a 2006 model. The new manual is slightly larger than the previous one so there is definitely an extra page or two in there.

There must have been a small mid-year price hike. I was searching dealer inventories just yesterday, and noticed a dealership that had 2 identical '06 Z enthusiasts... one was $200 more. Why? - the base price was $200 more on one than the other.
