Default NNA Issues

Greeting, I will try to be brief on my dealings with the dealership and NNA over the past few days about tire feathering on my 2005. yes, 2005.

Took the original Potenza's off at 8K due to poor wet weather handling.
Replaced with Avon M/S AS500.
Took to local tire place to balance at 16K. Was told that "cupping" was my problem not, balance.
Took to local dealer. Advised that my "adjustment" period was over but would align and flip tires and this should solve the issue. $105.00 later.
2K later the noise and feathering is returning.

Part 2
Called the dealership on Wednesday and the first response from the advisor was that"it's not our problem, alignment was in specs". After a brief lightly heated discussion he agreed at no cost to check it again.

Called NNA and spent 45 minutes on the phone documenting the issue.
NNA rep escalated the call and advised me that I would be contacted back within 24 hours.

Did not happen. Called again this afternoon and after three blind transfers to someones voice mail, finally got a rep to say that the regional service advisor was supposed the call the same business day. Again, no call.

Part 3. Congrats to Tire Rack as I did make a call to them and they were top notch. We agreed that there was a minimal chance that then tires were a problem but more that likely not. But agreed to sell me replacements for $88 as opposed to the normal list of $120+. Not bad on their part.

I did forget to say that the same area is a problem. Right front, inner tread. Even after the flip so this leads me believe that its the alignment. Opinions?

Sorry but tried to be brief. MTF.

a. Have you read the free tires - free alignment policy from Nissan? Do you qualify?

b. Complete the required documentation, and file a claim with Nissan. A paperwork trail is imperative. Nissan should send you a complaint number.

If your paperwork is in order, Nissan will reimburse you for the cost of new tires.

Thanks for the reply.

Questions.

Where would I access to this policy? I am sure NNA would not suggest or forward me a copy of it.

How long was your papertrail and did you have the alignments?

Over the years, the latest Nissan feathering policies have been published here. I downloaded the claim form from Z-Sport Magazine but that was over a year ago.

Wow you generally don't hear much about the tire feathering issue on 2005s. Only us 03-04s were plagued by it. Good luck man it was a headache for me to resolve as well.

I have a lawyer handling the same situation on my Z right now. No doubt Nissan is fcking us on this one. I have the Potenzas on and they did "the fix" at 7,000 miles and now 13,000miles later. I left the Potenzas on so they can't use aftermarket tires as an excuse. If everyone did this than Nissan would have to own up. They are doing the dishonorable thing by waiting for people to complain before doing anything about it and handling it one case at a time. It saves them money and reliabilty ratings in the long run.

Default Upper control arms

I have an 04 touring ---17" wheels ---I bought new in Nov 03. I had significant feathering problems ---three sets of front tires and all allignment instructions from Nissan for the feathering problem were followed by the tech each time. The dealer replaced the first two sets at no cost to me and then I just gave up and pulled the trd set off. Purchased a set of 18" chrome Stern ST7s with PS2s ---245 front and 265 rear ---and have had NO problems with the fronts feathering at all.. In fact, I roate my summer wheels and tires back to stock each winter and have almost 20,000 on the 18" front summer tires. As soon as I put my stock wheels and tires back on for the winter---they started feathering again ---started at 4,000 miles. 18s back on last spring and still no problems with the 18s. Getting ready to rotate back to stock for this winter but, I think I have found the solution ---If you check with a Nissan dealer parts department you will find that Nissan started distributing new upper "A" arms for the Z --- late 05 or early 06. It is a different part number than the one specified for the 03 / 04 Zs. There is no obvious difference between the two and Nissan has not offered any comments to the dealers as to why there is a another "A" arm out there. I suspect that there is a difference, however ---"included angle???" that Nissan has incorporated into them to address the feathering issue. In any event, my dealer has a set of 06s that were pulled off an 06 Z when the owner went to adjustable arms. So, I get them for $50.00 for the set. I am going to try those and see if my feathering problems goes away. I will let you all know.

emtae, you are in Canada, we only get 18's. Our friends in US get 17 and 18 depending on model and trim.

Follow-up.

Went back to dealer for 2nd alignment. All within specs but service manager did acknowledge that the tire was again feathering.

NNA rep asked that I call when the "car was in the air" to discuss. This was the Friday after Thanksgiving. He was supposed to be in. Got his voice mail and a message on the 800 # that NNA was closed for the holiday. Left another voice mail today at 8:20 CST, no return call.

The saga continues..........
