I need opinions/advice from you guys. Help me out.
Oki guys, I guess some of you know that I've been out of country for a while and that I just recently purchased my Z online. The deal is concluded and its mine. I wont have any pictures to take of it until I get home for my next leave. The dealer is Missouri, and he says he will ship the car anywhere within 600 miles or so.
For my next leave, I will be flying in to H-Town Texas (probably shouldnt post real name for opsec reasons.). Because I am taking a cruise out of the port there.
Wife is flying down and meeting me there, from Iowa, which is where I currently call home.
Originally, before I left for the land of donkey ****ers, H-Town was home. I had a cavalier there that I gave to my mom because she needed a car. I wouldnt need it because I was here. My wife didnt need it then, but we have decided we do need it now for a winter car. So its going to be driven back to iowa.
Heres where you guys come in. I can have the guy ship the car to Iowa, but then I wont even get a chance to drive it. It will pretty much be put directly in a garage until I come back from Afghanistan some time in the spring.
Or...
I can have the dealer ship it to Htown and drive it the few days before my wife flies in and our cruise boards, and then have my wife drive the cavalier while I follow in the Z. Then when we get to Iowa, I can put it in the garage, but at least I will have gotten to enjoy my new toy for a few days at least before I go back. Do you guys think I could drive it carefully from Texas to Iowa safely if I put snow tires on it?
Before you guys say anything, Im not worried about what I'll be spending on gas, or the fact that I gotta pay for a new set of snow tires, or the fact that it might not be the most comfortable car to drive across country.
I worked an entire year over here to get this car. I really want a chance to enjoy it at least a little before I head back to Afghan, but if you guys (ie those of you who have more experience driving the Z than i do) think its too dangerous I guess I'll suck it up and have it shipped there. and just stare at it while Im home.
One last note, I have very little snow driving experience, but alot of RWD driving experience.
Thanks guys.

Thats what Im saying. Not to get all melodramatic, but theres no guarantee I'll even make it back. Thats the reality of being over here. I wish I could say its not true, but I've lost too many friends not to except that possibility.
I just want to believe that if Im careful, I can make it safely from Texas to Iowa without wrecking my new toy.

Drive it like you stole it man!
Have a little fun and get yourself a radar detector too so that you can open her up. Texas roads are all clear. You won't need snow tires here. Most of it melted today. If you are coming from Houston to Dallas on 45N, that's a good wide open 4.5-5 hr drive with lots of speed traps. Treat yourself and enjoy your new toy before you leave.
