Arrow Premature wear on steering wheel?

I am curious, has anyone had any premature wear on the steering wheel spokes? Seems to me that handling the plastic "aluminum" spokes would cause the grey color to wear off.

1. What makes you think they are plastic?

2. Why would you steer with the spokes?

I usually steer on the outside of the wheel were the indentations are, and so far no wear. Not sure about the spokes, since I never hold the wheel there.

I like the optional steering wheel that they offer in the Japan market. It's nice.

Oh, the gray "aluminum" trim on the steering wheel spokes isn't plastic? I just figured it was at it seems almost every new car nowadays has a interior covered by this fake aluminum stuff.
