So I was driving home at night after work. Freeway is pretty clear so going up the hill in my area, I decided to play speed racer. I'm going 70 on 6th gear so I drop it to 4th gear. The tach moved to 5000rpms and by 6000, the shift light starts to blink (comes with all manual z) as I approached the red line. By 6500 rpms, I look down and I shift to the gear I believed to be 4th. Well, instead of 5th, I hit 3rd, the redline hit 7500 rpms, scared me ****LESS! Jeez that was scrary. Hopefully nothing broke. God I'm a dork. Everything seems to be shifting fine so hopefully every is cool.

Honestly it was a great day at work (work at a nonprofit), felt great, listening to linkin park. Its one of those days where you have to open up the throttle and become reminded that you are driving a sports car. What are the safe shifting points to drop to 3rd gear? Is 70 too much?

Down shifting to too low of a gear is a good way to rape your motor.
I have a feeling you would already know if something was wrong. Is your redline 6600? Either way a second or 2 past redline will not damage the engine. So I am told.

Checkout the thread below if you really want to know what happens to your motor if you mis-shift badly:

dropping 6th-->3rd at around 70mph is fine if you rev-match it properly. you'll rev pretty high (maybe about 5k? i dont know..), but 3rd doesn't redline until around 98mph, at least on the '06.

When I was full NA with cams and everything.. I went all the way to the top of third and went for forth but found second. No biggy. When I tore down the car to rebuild the bottom end.. Every valve was with within spec.
No worries
