Why put the gear in nuetral at the light. Cant you keep it in gear.

and why would you go from 6 to neutral and then to 3?

As camaro stated you'll be more likely to wear out your throwout bearing if you get in the bad habit of keeping the clutch depressed when there is no need.

letting the clutch out in neutral helps the transmission get ready for you to skip gears... it's not absolutely necessary but it's a good habit to get into. same thing is true for anytime you select first gear or reverse... let the clutch out in neutral before selecting those gears.

there's no wrong way to do it... when i started out, i kept myself in gear and depress clutch.... but if u drive around alot... ur left leg will get tired LOL. just put it in nuetral and let go off the clutch... light turn green, get in gear, let go clutch, down on gas. so... let's say a jackass didnt see ur car at stop... and he wam! into ur Z's ***. if u are in gear + depress clutch... then some1 hit you... ull let go off the clutch and run into the intersection... that's not good :P but that rarely happens. so why not just put it in neutral just to be safe?

u would want to go from 6->3 when u are racing on the highway... if u are below 80mph and cruising at 6th... and u want max power... i've often go 6th->3th and go. but u gotta be careful.... try learning to drive first... then do more complicated things.

or another case... is when u slow down.... if u going out of a highway ramp from 70mph to 30-40ish mph... then u downshift to 3 and let the engine slow you down. u can use brake too to help.

man, most of these things are experience, get ur *** in the car and experiment. it aint rocket science.

downshift is all about balancing tach + speedo.... how far you downshift is the same question as how slow are you slowing down.
