I'm 22 and although I'm responsible enough to take care of my parents and own a home I STILL feel sometimes as If I'm not mature when driving my Z cuz I get excited sometimes and I step on a little. But then again I get reminded real soon (In like .22 seconds) that it took a while to be able to afford this car and maybe it would be a good idea to be extra careful.
Some kids have multiple Kart championships under their belt by the age of 16 and could drive circles around you at 22

Humans vary by experience ---- my daughter who is 4 will compete in karting and I would have no problems handing her the keys to the Z if I felt at 16 she could handle it

There are 30+yr old guys who I wouldnt let wash my car let alone hand them the keys to the Z

Its all about experience and ability ---- too many full grown men couldnt drive themselves out of a brown paper bag but think they are Mario Andretti

I am 26 and a decently skilled driver (drag racing, scca, cayon runs with multiple platforms) but I still respect my Z alot ---- it can bite if provoked and I never forget that

I put the down payment on my base Z when i was 16...and my parents did not pay for it, i believe if your a teenager and you really wanted to get a Z, it wouldn't be too hard....as long as your parents dodn't charge you for rent, all you have to do is work and stop spending your money on smoking pot/drugs

Your Mom raised a pretty smart kid, but then that does not surprise me in the least!

I think it should be a lot harder to get a license at 16. A LOT of 16 year olds are just too immature to drive, plain and simple...

I would.

As my dad said once. "If he is going to drive 90, he is going to drive 90. It doesn't matter if its in the Jeep, a Geo Metro, or the Rx7. The difference is, between the three, the Rx7 stops faster and handles a lot better."

When it comes to fast cars and stupid kids, accelerating is usually not the problem. Any car can get to 100 today, just depends how long. The problem is how quickly it goes back to 0.

It's not about the speed. It's about responsibility and learning the value of money. Even if I'm rich, I wouldn't buy my kid a car. I would have him work and learn how to save up for a car.

You can buy them their first car. They are 17, can't afford those types of things. They go ahead and crash the car you got them, well, now its their problem. Right there they learn the responsibility and value of money if that had not already.

My father bought my first car (actually, gave me his old one and he bought a new one). Does that automatically mean I do not know the value/responsiblity of money? No. It means my family was busy and it was impractical for me NOT to have a car. One less person you have to worry about driving around at that point. Like I said, they mess it, well they are not getting a second one.

I do not agree with the parents that buy them a new car, they crash it, buy them another, they crash that one, and then buy them another. Thats just BS (and yes I know people like this).

Personally, I'd buy my kid a car at 16-17...but not a 350z. At that age it can be hard to afford any car at all. It would probably be a used econo-car for the sake of getting around. A car like a Z should definitely be earned with their own money - not given.

My parents bought me a used 97 Sentra for my first car. Then I saved up and bought a Z myself.

I was typing fast. What I meant was that I wouldn't buy my kid an "expensive" first car. Sure I'd buy a cheap one or hand them an old one.

I've had friends who wanted to get a car for their kid that was only a two seater so that the kids couldn't take along too many friends in their car and get into trouble. However, I also think with the power that the Z has, if a 16 year old's hormones are raging, a car like the Z may make it a little too easy to get in trouble. I don't know ... I can see giving my Z to my child when they turn 16, if the car is still nice enough by then.

very true.....I even catch my self bashing on kids driving. We had to write a paper on it in school....before i got my license and i said that they need to raise the age limit for driving. Oxi-moron to myself becasue i wanted to drive so bad...but alot of ppl agreed w/ me on it...well non teenage ppl.

My son is 9 and I have one waiting for him in storage. It gets driven about 500 miles per year--so in seven years it wil have 3,500 miles on it and it will still smell new.
