I just drive, say 70 MPH, in sixth gear and don't worry at the RPM. Fifth gear is comfortable to about 50 MPH.

anything between 2k and 3k rpms should be fine. I would lean more towards 2k though.

I try to keep it above 2500 and below 3300 when cruising in 6th. For that matter I try to keep it at or above 2500 in all gears that seems to be the best power point. Below 2500 it gets a little sluggish for me. Keeping it below 3300 in 6th is hard though.

6th gear - you are cruising, not racing. Simple matter to kick it down a gear or two should the situation "require" it. Mine does not feel like it is lugging even at 2000 RPM.

best way to get best gas mileage when cruisin is to keep the lowest RPMs you can, even as low as 1500

C&D did a huge write up on this and tested a bunch of cars in a whole bunch of different set ups.

once again this stupid noob mucks up another thread with an offtopic response...and then you expect people to be serious when you post a thread? idiot, you should be banned.

+1 on cruising at the highest gear you can...for max MPG. If need be all you gotta do is downshift

Considering you can't change your RPM without changing your speed, I'm not sure how anyone can answer your question.

I'm not flaming here - trust me - but if you were driving at 65 MPH and wanted your RPM's to go down, what do you suppose you'd do???

Mash the gas pedal?

If 1500 was the answer - does that mean cruising on the highway at 40 MPH is appropriate?

So what question are you really trying to ask? Perhaps this: if you go on long trips, what is the best RPM to have your car at as to not cause damage or wear? Should I change RPM's every ??? minutes to be safe?

You can expect to have someone flame you for asking a question the way you did. It's not s DUMB question - just a poorly stated one.

Just trying to help keep you from getting flamed again...

Just remember how you treat others on the boards...use tact! You don't know what you don't know...and the purpose here is to help each other and teach a bit when you can.

6500 or 7000 if you have a rev-up motor, for when you're cruising wangan style

If you're on an open road and don't have to fluctuate in speed just leave in sixth, but when you're not and having speed up/slow down I'd keep it around 2-2500
