has nissan hit a home run with the Z?

I think Nissan has a winner here. There really isn't anything in its class that offers the level of performance for the money.
Among the 2 seater (non-convertible market), the competition is the the BMW Z3/M-coupe and Corvette, all of which are considerably more expensive.
If you open up the comparisons to include convertibles (a bit of an unfair comparison, since it's probably better to wait for the 350Z convertible first), then you add in the S2000 and Boxster (regular +S), but those cars are either more expensive (Boxsters) or different in philosophy (S2K). In the hopes that this doesn't escalate into the last 350Z vs S2k thread, let's just agree that the S2K is a very different type of car that will appeal to a different audience.
Based on that, it's pretty easy to see that the Z really is in a class of its own. The big question for me is, even though it is best in class, will enough people buy them? The 2 seater market is fickle. Not everyone can afford one and nor can they put up with the limited practicality of owning such a car.
