New(!) insurance question
First: a little history. 12/20, on my way home in Bumfuk, Ohio, I "slightly" hit a deer with my Z. If she is reading this right now: You have a 60-grit fisting coming if I ever see your furry *** in the road again. Let's just say that if I had braked just a fraction of a second sooner, I wouldn't be posting this. Damage was $2400 total. Fender, headlight (was just replaced 90 min. before- THE IRONY!!!) and the front bumper is torn right at the corner. My question is: do I have a legal right to demand use of oem parts to fix my car? Because obviously, I only want the best for my Z, not some half-assed non-fitting parts the body shop got on the cheap. I've been told that this is true, but I'd like some verification on this. It's bad enough that I have to drive it like this until 1/15, but the thought of having shoddy, horrible-gapped body parts on my otherwise pristine car is really depressing. Thx for any input in advance....

haha dont take it to a dealer shop they are usually horrible. You dont want people painting your car that work by the hour. Used fenders are normal and save you money. But you can request new parts. I rebuilt my porsche out of used parts and you couldnt even tell it had been wrecked.

The body shop that I got my estimate at does excellent work and have proven themselves by what they had done for my previous car. I wasn't sure if requesting oem-only parts for a repair was the right of ANY auto insurance policy holder or if it was a per-policy matter, which is why I asked the question. I'm going to dig out my policy and magnifying glass....thanks for all the input.

Well, if you think he will lie to you when you ask the question, how do you think you are going to get teh insurance company to comply with your wishes for OEM parts. Are you going to print out the responses from this message and tell them they have to use OEM parts because you read it on a message board?
Seriously, if you want accurate answers to insurance questions, ask your insurer. Don't bother posting them on messge boards.
The "good people" on the messge board are NOT going to get your car fixed, your insurance comapny is.

Not sure about your experiences, but I have a great relationship with my insurance agent (been with same company since 1991. My agent relies on my business and goes out of his way to make his customers happy. I don't carry insurance because I'm legally obligated to. I carry it for peace of mind, knowing that if something unfortunate happens to my car, it will be taken care of.
If your experience isn't similar, might I suggest you shop around then. It's a highly competitive line of businesses and you can find one to satisfy you.
BTW, there is no such thing as "fine print." Thats just an excuse people use instead of admitting they were too lazy to get all the facts before making a decision.
