Car mag, another top notch British car magazine for enthusiasts, is similar to Evo mag, only less focused on which cars they play with. Evo only goes for performance models while Car will check out all sorts of cars, but via seriously spirited driving to find out if the thing is worth a damn or not. In other words, Car's perspective is performance oriented and their opinions on cars are bluntly honest. Like Evo, they don't hesitate to tell you something's crap nor to strongly recommend against buying a car. Or say a car's good but recommend buying another one instead.
At any rate they ran the new 350 Z with an M3 and evidently thought the Z easily matched it. Bear in my mind that for them the M3 is the hottest car in its class, ahead of the 911. I'm not sure if the stateside M3 is the same as the Euro version - used to be down on power and with a softer suspension for cruising the suburbs while the Euro version is pretty much a hard core road car - but regardless, if the new Z compares that well with the M3 in the eyes of Car mag, that's a major achievement. More impressively, they felt that the Z was way more direct than the Bimmer.
I haven't read the article, my son sent me the excerpts. We split the two mags; he has a subscription to Car which is mailed to him in the states and I get Evo here in France. If you're interested, you can usually find Car in one of those huge book stores that are usually in some shopping mall. They almost always have a coffee shop and a huge magazine rack with lots of foreign mags. I've forgotten what they're called; been awhile since I've been stateside. Driving there makes me crazy now after living here for 8 years. Cruising regularly up in the 3 digit zone is normal here; and I'm talking mph, not kph!
Anyway Car is a great magazine, like Evo, and about a zillion times better than the rag sheets published stateside.
The quotes my son sent me are :
".....there is no doubt about it, the Z is an incredibly tactile and sensuous sports car. It not only passes the basic tests - handling, roadholding, ride - with flying colors, but it also displays an unusual depth in the way it delivers the goods....."
".....there is absolutly nothing artificial, no filter whatsoeveer that might subdue the linearity of the controls or the intimacy between car and driver it communicates with minimum delay and maximum accuracy....."

CAR is a GREAT MAG and this gentleman who submitted the excerpts on 350Zforum.com is absolutely right about the UK press and their frankness when it comes to auto reviews. I can't wait to hear what Top Gear has to say. Here's hoping that Tiff Needle does the test drive on video!
CAR is available at a Barnes and Noble and/or BORDERS near you!

Thumbs up reviews are coming out all over the place. Excellent news.
Looking forward to what the Japanese magazines have to say once the Z is introduced for sale here on July 30.

This just goes to show how biased American magazines are. The UK magazines tell it like it is but the American magazine nit pick and ***** and moan about the littlest things and blow everything way out of proportion (EX. the interior).

DAmN my sunset looks GooD!!!!!#!@$!@%!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's an interesting article - I must pick it up and add it to my collection 8-).
I like the fact it held its own with some top end vehicles. Vette, Boxster, M3, and even the mighty Skyline.

Tin roof" those brits have a way with words.
I like how he say it's worth springing for the top of the line track model. I mean if you can afford the extra jack, why not get the best?
they seemed to find the interior VW-like. that sounds good to me.

I was looking over the small list of suggestions that Car magazine had. One that struck me was the need for a larger gas tank... correct me if I'm wrong here folks but isn't the Z's tank 20 gallons? That's flippin' huge for a car!!!
