I am a couple hundred miles from my first oil change. Most people suggest using regular dino oil vs. synthetic on your first change. Figured this would make a great poll to see what the majority did. Feel free to let us know which oil brand and viscosity you choose.

1- He has never tested it on cars, only motorcycles.
2- It is simply impossible to prove any hp gains his method promises. When no two identical engines leave the assembley line with 100% identical power numbers, how can such a claim ever be proven?
3- No respected mechanical body, independent or not, has ever made such claims. And no, they are not some sacred "secrets" as he insists.

why break something that aint broke. These engines have been known to eat oil so why go with synthetic in the first place... Thats just my thought. I go with dino and change it every 4k-ish miles. I loose about 1/2 quart every 3500 miles so thats about fine.
I did a hard break in. I drove nicely for 20 miles then I couldnt take it and did like 10 WOT runs in a row.

NISSAN recommends mineral based oils. Your car should come with an owners manual. It even says your car came with high quality oil from the factory and there is no need to change it before the first scheduled change. It's a conspiracy.
almost time for my first oil change also. Im not sure which one to go w/. seems like a lot of people went w/ dino but I am gonna take it to the dealership for my first oil change and the next ones will be done myself at home or at school. I wonder which type of oil the dealership uses. maybe I should keep using what they use.

two words....metal shavings. Ever change the oil at 100 miles on a car, bike, truck, 4 wheeler???? Ever used a magnetic plug? I get more shavings at 100 miles than if I leave it in for 3500 miles. Ever wonder why? Why don't you try something new and make your own evaluation before you knock something. You might be surprised at the results.
I ran Dino oil in my stock motor and built motor at first. I switched to Synthetic at 7000 miles with stock NEVER burned more than 1/2 quart in a 3000-3500 mile hard driving interval. BTW first oil change stock came at 1000 miles.

The people who designed your car for performance and longevity are really going to sabotage you right off the bat. Nissan doesn't know what kind of oil is best for their engines or when to suggest oil changes, nor do they know how to properly break the engine in. All hail motoman!!

True, oil filter can catch some, but the rest of the metal shavings floating around end up bonding to other parts. Why else would I find them at the bottom of my oil pan if the oil filter got them all? Break in procedures haven't changed in these owner manuals in years. Funny how technology and design changes, but the break in does not. Pick up a book or two or ask someone with some freakin sense. Better yet, actually READ the article. Maybe one day you'll ditch that close minded mentality and learn how to make your own observations and devise your own methods from that.
Your responses don't surprise me much....the public school system in OKC blows. lmao.

Of course an oil filter can't catch everything, especially stuff that is too small or never makes it to the filter. How many oil filters have you cut open? Considering the majority of the oil in your car doesn't get sucked through the DRAIN PLUG in normal operation... I would tend to think the oil filter would be a better place for a magnet to catch the smaller stuff that actually gets sucked through the engine.
You're a lost cause....keep doing what you're doing. I could care less.
