Default Exhaust smell while under acceleration?

Have other drivers noticed a rather strong smell of exhaust fumes while accelerating hard. When the windows are down it is pretty noticible. It sort of smells like the engine is running rich-but the exhaust is not dark and there is no soot on the rear of the car. The idle is a little rough but I think that is normal for a highly tuned engine. The performance seems fine, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Thanks

I have noticed this also, so much so that I believe it is an issue Nissan must deal with. I thought at first it was the heater drawing in exhaust from other cars, but now I am wondering if there is a design flaw causing this.

I thought I noticed this as well, only when going to up 5k or so (rarely since I am still in break-in).

I am still barely in break-in so I hope this goes away once break-in is complete (100km).

Any others notice this?

Thanks,
Elmer.

1900km. I got it again this morning on the way to work.

It sure smells like *** or eggs so I am thinking its the cat. I figure it should go away once break-in is over and I start ripping it a bit more. If it doesn't, then the dealer can take a look.

I am diggin' this car though. Puts a smile on my face every day. Dudes at work must think I've started to like my job or something.

Elmer.

I thought I was nuts for thinking I noticed this! wow...

It smells sulfury... kinda like bad cats. I was thinking maybe there was an exhaust leak near one of the cats, but then I figured I was just being annally wacko...

Oh... and I'm at 5k miles.

My last car did it too. Only at WOT, the ECU ran the injectors at max for a slight rich mixture IIRC. It was meant to be a safety thing for the motor. The smell was just the cat.

Keep you windows rolled up, or your foot off the gas. That is normal. You bought a performance car didnt you? At wide open throttle your car is designed to run rich, so you will not detinate your motor.

I had the same problem and the dealer diagnosed it (and of course blamed it on the CAI) and said I was running VERY rich..I also had a multiple misfire code set off..I think there was a problem with the coils or something on some of the first ones..

I was thinking about misfire, too.

By the way, Fairlady, just because its a performance car doesn't mean it should have an exhaust stink this prominent (from the engine bay). I've owned other sports cars and NEVER had this, even in a rich-running turbo car...

So this smell is normal and one shouldn't worry about it?

Ok, I don't have a Z, but on my Crossfire I had the smell for around the first 3000 miles, and then it went away. I have heard this is normal on new cars, and will go away after a while...

Its not the smell that new exhaust pipes make...

My Z had that WOT stink until the day I sold it.
