Question 2003 350z buying today, yes or no?

Hi all,
I am a new member starting today and also an owner of a 93 300zx na. I am about to buy a pristine looking 03 performance 350z with 15k miles for $16,500. Manual 6sp, new tires paid for by Nissan.(private seller said that he had the typical feathering, cupping, etc).

After reading alot about the car from this forum and other areas I am kinda thinking i may be setting myself up for future problems, What do you think?

You might be taking a risk with any car. 03's have their issues but if you keep an eye on them and make sure you have that 60k powertrain warranty you should be fine.

I've owned an 03 Performance since April 04. 43k miles and no major problems. I've had the little stuff (grease streaks on window, trunk not releasing all the way etc., etc), but no major problems like the tranny. My car feels as solid as the day I got it.

BTW, what color? If it's not black you will regret it...

Most importantly, Welcome to the board. This is a great site!

Check to see if the tranny has been replaced.

Default 2003 yes or no?

Thanks for the quick replies..color is sunset, it has kinda grown on me from looking at it on line and in person. Tranny has not been replaced and also the fuel line voluntary fix has not been done. What's up with the tranny, I have not heard about any prob w/them?

I have 4 hours to decide to buy or not!! I love my 300z but well... you know...something newer and cool!!

Hi,

I would recommend that you search a little more on '03-'04 model year issues before you purchase anything. You will find alot of info with regards to problems experienced by owners. Not all have had problems but it seems like a significant number of owners did.

Just dont pull the trigger to quickly, wait until you are absolutely certain its clean.(you can always find another Z)

Cheers,

R

That's a good price on a Performance. Why so cheap?

not a big market for this car in my area. Only 3 used 350z available in maui. 2 at the dealer for about $24000.00 and the one i am looking at. Carfax is clean. I called the dealer here and they never heard of the fuel hose recall and it has not been done to the car I am considering. What to do...what to do...

^Ok, I would get it if a nissan dealership will certify the Z for you.
Get the ride if they will perform all necessary recalls/tsb, voluntary or not. If they refuse dont buy it, I know I wouldnt.

IMO, you should wait and find a 2004.5 + model year. It may cost a little more but it will probably save you the headaches and $$$ down the road.

Good luck!

Edit: just realized that you said it was a private sale.

Hello to another Z32 owner! You'll get a lot more respect on this forum for being N/A versus the Z32TT forums.

What's the rush with buying it? Shop around and find the right one - there are so many out there. That price is right, and most 03s are just fine. Find the one for you, then buy it - don't rush it.

16500 is a damn good price...i've had my 03 since 3/03, nothing wrong with it except for the dealer replaced front tires and new alignment. Ok, they replaced both power window regulators and fuel hose recall....that was it. There's been no more frontend issues after the alignment. The Z is very inexpensive to maintain btw. Good luck.
